Hey guys what is up welcome back to my blog I’m so thankful that you guys took the time out of your day to read my blog post. Hope you all are safe from the COVID-19 and having a great day. I may be a bit biased to this anime because I already like basketball but I think that this was an amazing first sports anime to watch. SPOILERS AHEAD. They won’t affect your viewing much but it’s good at put the warnings.

The show starts with telling us about the Teiko middle school basketball club with an impressive record of many wins. Even in that impressive record there was a five man lineup known as the Generation of Miracles whose skills were said to be of a level greater than any other that the school or the entire world had ever seen. The five man lineup spilt after middle school and they all went on to different high schools go play for new teams. There was a rumour that even among the Generation of Miracles there was a phantom sixth man who wasn’t as noticed in the sports magazines but he was a player nevertheless. At Seirin High School the basketball team has two new recruits, a student who has just come back America named Kagami Taiga and a man with barely any presence Kuroko Tetsuya. Though initially skeptical of Kuroko the team soon realizes that though he isn’t good at dribbling or shooting his real skills is his lack of presence, a skill known as Misdirection which allows him to be hidden on the court and make impossible passes and steals. Forming a duo basketball style using Taiga’s power and Kuroko’s misdirection Seirin High decides to become the best team in Japan by taking on all the former players of the Generation of Miracles.
The characters are so good and memorable as well as well written with their own struggles and their own ways of growing throughout the series. We have Kuroko Tetsuya, the phantom sixth man whose passing is extreme because he has barely any presence on the court. Kagami Taiga is a student returned from America who is a powerful beast and everything that a basketball player aspires to be. Kuroko calls himself a shadow, a supporter and Taiga becomes his light leading to them becoming a duo which can crush teams. Then there are the generation of miracles, Kise Ryota, model and Copycat who can copy anyone’s skills. Midorima Shintaro who can shoot high threes and never miss, Aomine Daiki who is the best scorer and never feels anyone can challenge him. Then we have Murasakibara the tall defender whose reflexes are very fast. Then there is Captain Akashi Seijuro who has an Emperor’s Eye which can predict movements. Then there’s Teiko manager Momoi who can predict how players will grow. Along with these there are Serin’s team of Junpei Hyuga, Kiyoshi Teppi, Mitobe and lots and lots more.
The show is intense and serious when the basketball gets going and the games are like watching a real match but in slow motion so that we can view all the epic moves pulled off by the players. Some may call the skills unrealistic but high threes and movement prediction aren’t things that are uncommon in basketball. It’s dramatic and the music is what makes it seem unreal but it is very real. The show is comedic too with all the players having a bond with their team which helps to keep pace and not keep a constantly intense pace.
The thing that should be taken from this anime is the philosophy of life that is taught through the light and shadow philosophy that Kuroko and Taiga share. The philosophy actually shows that everyone had their own part to play in the game and in life. Every team needs all five players to complete a team and everyone needs to play their own positions. Everyone needs to understand their position in life and one shouldn’t feel that their position is inferior to someone, Kuroko doesn’t feel the need to be noticed by the people because all he wants is to love basketball and play the game. It’s also about not being crippled by loss but getting up, each loss is just cutting your teeth to be more predatory in the next match and that’s what Seirin High’s team shows, losing and them improving and them winning .
The anime is overall a really good sports anime, it isn’t like any other anime I’ve seen before so I liked it and one doesn’t need too much knowledge of basketball before watching the anime. The ending of the anime shows reconcilation and love for basketball being the main theme along with the movie. From my point of view this anime should be for someone who wants to watch sports and friendship and not someone who wants action and thrillers. The anime is long so consider that before you watch it but do watch it if you want to watch some intense basketball.
Rap section:
Teiko middle school Generation of Miracles,
Winning is everything no other principles,
Making basket as easy as counting syllables,
Too good at the game should be considered criminals.
Split after middle school going up against each other,
Without each other new things they discover,
Practicing too hard working their muscles rougher,
Five man lineup but there was another.
Kuroko Tetsuya phantom sixth man of the team,
So hidden on the court that it may seem,
You’re not watching a match but a dream,
Not good at playing but his passing is extreme.
Teaming up with Taiga he’s taking on his old crew,
Got so many heavy passes that only a few,
Can catch and make the basket that’s true,
Duo style basketball ever team they’re gonna subdue.
