Wotakoi – Not a typical romance
Hey guys what is up welcome back to my blog I’m so thankful that you guys took the time out of your day to read my blog post. Hope you all are safe and healthy. I really needed something light and fun to watch and Wotakoi was a new concept that I just had to try out. Anyways, MILD SPOILERS AHEAD like always, you should know this by now.

Narumi Momose who has just joined a new workplace is an otaku who likes to keep her habits secret from other people due to fear of being ridiculed. She runs into a childhood friend Hirotaka Nifuji at her new workplace. Hirotaka is a gamer who is open about his habits unlike, Narumi. Narumi is also friends with cosplayer Hanako Koyanagi who goes to the same office and Taro Kabakura who she is dating. The story is about these 4 characters navigating their day to day life while keeping up with their otaku habits and maintaining their own relationships.
The thing that I liked about this anime was that while there was little character ‘development’ because these characters are already adults and it is hard to change when you’re an adult, the characters have their own little realizations throughout the story especially, Hirotaka who gradually deals with his insecurity. There’s not much to say about the characters other than that they’re fun and interesting to watch and that my favorite is Koyanagi because of her insults.
The romance in this anime isn’t typical either because normally romances are set in high school and involve teens who are still developing since the characters in this anime are all working adults the story is different and moves differently from a normal romance. The new concept gives a lot of freedom and while it may feel unrelatable for some people, it actually is pretty fun and comedic to watch. There’s also the fact that this is an anime that gradually gets better, it doesn’t start off awesome but slowly as you get to know the characters you start having fun. There’s also the fact that it feels more like a slice of life about the characters than a romance and while I liked it, this is something that people might not like.
All romances are not the same, that is something that I learned from this anime. Even the two couples shown in the anime are all different in how they interact. One is new and moves slow and the other is all developed and moves differently. The reason I pointed this out as a take away from this is because, people usually always look at other couples (usually celeb couples) and try to mold their own relationship in that image which fails miserably most of the times because every relationship is different and unique to their own pace.
The anime has 11 episodes currently and it is a fun watch. I might just dive into the manga soon because I liked the characters. This is one of those anime that is definitely aimed at working adults so if you’re an adult you will relate to this anime a lot more than I ever can. I loves the comedy and the slice of life of this anime. With a fresh concept, more slice of life than romance and characters that are unrelatable to some people I will gives this anime a 7/10. This is a reccomendation that you will have to try out for yourself to be sure about.
So that is it for this post guys hope you got some value from this. Thank you guys for reading to the end hit me up on Instagram and Twitter with your thoughts and if you have any ideas on what I should write about. Stay safe from the COVID-19. Thank you again and I’ll see you all next week.
MHA – Enjoyable and overhated
Hey guys what is up welcome back to my blog I’m so thankful that you guys took the time out of your day to read my blog post. Hope you all are safe and healthy. I’ll admit that it took me a long time to start this because I was biased since I’d seen people say MHA was not good but I’m glad I started it. Also, this review is kind of different since I switched from the anime to the manga at the beginning of S4. The basic format is the same but what I’m saying here talks about both the anime and the manga. So let’s get into it. MILD SPOILERS AHEAD.

In a word where people have begun to develop superpowers, otherwise known as ‘Quirks’, heroes and villains are common. Every person with a quirk dreams of becoming a hero. In such a society, Izuku Midoriya is born quirkless that is without any superpower. Having always been a fan of All Might, the no. 1 hero and the symbol of peace, Izuku still dreams of being a hero, aiming to enroll at UA High School, the school with the best hero course. One day unintentionally, Izuku is captured by a villain and All Might who happens to be on the scene defeats the villain, saving Izuku. After having a chat with All Might, Izuku comes to know of a secret that All Might hides from the entire world. Through an event that makes All Might believe in Izuku, All Might passes down his quirk to Izuku so he can enroll in the hero course in UA. Now armed with a quirk that has potential far beyond his understanding, Izuku beings a journey to become the world’s greatest hero.
There are a lot of characters in this series and I mean a lot. The fun thing is almost all of them grow through their time at UA to become better and deal with their issues. The MC, Midoriya Izuku who at first seems like a classic tale of zero to hero, grows to understand the truth behind the world of heroes that shatters his false ideals. Bakugo who is Izuku’s childhood friend and rival, is a brash and arrogant boy who suffers from an inferiority complex towards Izuku. There’s Uraraka Ochako, a cheery girl whose motivations are much different than a normal person’s motivation for becoming a hero and yet she is still pure hearted. And my favorite character, Todoroki Shoto, a boy who struggles with his own identity and his relationship with his power as well as with his family. these characters all go through their character arcs to grow and the sheer number of characters is also amazing though some are left static, we do get to see most of their ideals and values.
The anime at least up until season 3 has some really good animation and music however the anime’s pace does seem to be off in comparison to the manga. The series in general is comedic at certain times when needed and sometimes when unneeded aswell. The series is also highly emotional and will drive you to tears more than once, the intensity of each scene, the backstories, the interpersonal relationships of the characters, there’s a lot about these characters and this story that will make you cry. There’s also the intense battles and the new techniques developed in battle which shows a lot of creativity. There’s also the fact that the series manages to grasp the concept of ‘heroes in training’ extremely well. There’s just the fact that the series can be way too chaotic at times with plot points are left open for a long time with no mention of them at all, enough to make you forget them. The ending arc does tie them back together but it still can get very chaotic at times, even in the manga.
While the series manages to show a lot of things such as how certain quirks can be damaging no matter what, how there’s inequality even ina society with heroes in terms of how people are treated, there is one thing that stands out and shines to me, the one thing that made me like the series a lot, ‘Heroes can’t save everyone’. This is related to the characters at UA, being naive and believing that heroes save everyone and gradually coming to terms with the fact that they too will have some regrets. This is mainly Deku’s ideal that heroes save everyone and this same ideal combined with the reality that he has learnt sets up the ending in such a beautiful way that I can see it being good if executed well.
The anime is ongoing at 113 episodes divided over 5 seasons while the manga is in what seems to be the final stretch, at 354 chapters. The finale of the series is extremely exciting and emotional and is set up really well, it all depends on how it is executed now. With exciting fights, brutal realities and a story that only gets darker as it progresses, MHA is a slow start that burns into a great fire. I’ll give it an 8 personally.
So that is it for this post guys hope you got some value from this. Thank you guys for reading to the end hit me up on Instagram and Twitter with your thoughts and if you have any ideas on what I should write about. Stay safe from the COVID-19. Thank you again and I’ll see you all next week.
Slam Dunk – Intense emotions and intense basketball
Hey guys what is up welcome back to my blog I’m so thankful that you guys took the time out of your day to read my blog post. Hope you all are safe and healthy. This manga I got recommended on Twitter (Where you should follow me because I post my thoughts on new chapters there all the time). I did well in picking up this manga because I like basketball and this manga was really good. Anyway, MILD SPOILERS AHEAD.

The story begins with Sakuragi Hanamichi being rejected by another girl in middle school bringing his record of being rejected up to 50 times. Now in highschool and hating basketball because the girl he liked, liked a basketball player, delinquent Hanamichi is approached by a girl, Akagi Haruko who seeing his strong build and height asks him if he is interested in basketball. Desperate to impress Haruko, Hanamichi decides that he too wants to join the basketball team. However, his road is not at all easy but Hanamichi perseveres and his growth from a petty delinquent to a proper player who loves basketball is the tough journey we will witness.
The main focus of the story, Hanamichi is developed quite a lot throughout the story which is good considering that he is the MC. He grows from an arrogant delinquent who knows nothing about basketball to a proper player and along the way he learns a lot. next is the ace of the Shohoku High basketball team, Rukawa, a star player who is a contrast to Hanamichi in skill and the direct opposite of him. We have the center of the team, Akagi Takenori who is the captain of the team and primarily the one who teaches Sakuragi. There’s also Miyagi Ryota and Mitsui, both problem children like Sakuragi. Then we have the supporter and Hanamichi’s crush, Haruko. The manager Ayako and last but certainly not the least, the amazing coach, Anzai. These characters all form the Shohoku High basketball team and all are well-written characters however this is more of the story of Hanamichi than the story of the basketball club.
This manga is extremely funny and the humor is played in really well with the intense basketball making sure that the pacing is kept fine and we get to experience all the highs of the plays in the game as well as get to replace in between those plays with a few antics especially the interactions between Hanamichi and Rukawa. The manga also has some really good basketball which I honestly did not expect. The plays seem real and the intensity of each and every game can be felt by the reader. The manga also gets into the inner conflicts within a team and that shows us a lot. The manga doesn’t fail to make you experience some real emotions and I guarantee that you will at least feel something by the end of it. There’s the art of the manga which is not the prettiest earlier on but that too improves over time.
Love for basketball is something that shouldn’t be forgotten. That is something that I saw even in Kurko’s Basketball but in Slam Dunk too, it is the love for the game that ultimately motivates the players of the teams and makes for a great story and the ending panel too reaffirms that in the end, it’s not winning or losing that matters, it was always just loving basketball.
The manga is finished at 276 chapters and while some may call the finale rushed I believe that it was not rushed and rather was an ending that gave us the most realistic outcome without ruining the true message of the manga which was the love for basketball. While the focus may be the entire team, in the end, this was the story of Sakuragi Hanamichi and that is what we get. For some intense basketball and some really deeply emotional moments do read Slam Dunk which I guarantee is at least a 7 out of ten.
So that is it for this post guys hope you got some value from this. Thank you guys for reading to the end hit me up on Instagram and Twitter with your thoughts and if you have any ideas on what I should write about. Stay safe from the COVID-19. Thank you again and I’ll see you all next week.
The File of Young Kindaichi Returns – Entertaining detective work
Hey guys what is up welcome back to my blog I’m so thankful that you guys took the time out of your day to read my blog post. Hope you all are safe and healthy. This anime is close to my heart and I am biased toward it. The reason? Years ago when I was just a kid I switched to the ‘Animax’ channel (if I remember correctly) on my TV and there I watched one episode of this show, since then I always tried to watch this show but the episodes were broadcasted in a random order so I couldn’t make much sense of it. However, it stuck with me and years later I remembered the name ‘Kindaichi’ and searched for it. I found the original but bad subs, low quality and no availability of episodes made me turn to this new anime which is kind of a continuation. MILD SPOILERS AHEAD. Very mild like only character name and some outlines of cases.

The fun thing about this anime is that it doesn’t follow a typical story. I’ll get to explaining that in a bit. Kindaichi Hajme is the grandson of a famous detective, a slakcer in school, his trued abilities show when he works on murder cases that he gets sucked into. He usually works with childhood friend and kind of love interest Miyuki Nanase. the old detective in the police force Kenmochi takes help from Kindaichi from cases and is his go to for police support during cases. Then there’s the police superintendent Akechi, a brilliant and handsome man who offers support to Kindaichi and competes with him. The story follows Kindaichi on different cases, the only constant characters are the four mentioned above and sometimes 2 of Kindaichi’s rivals make an appearance but it never goes anywhere. The thing is that you can basically jump into any arc of your choosing and completely understand the story. The arcs being anywhere from 1 to 5 episodes long. Hence a story summary is pretty much not possible here.
Character development is nonexistent in this anime and you will see that because from the start we see Kindaichi as a static character. He’s smart, goofy, and sometimes a pervert but when solving cases he is the most serious person ever. He doesn’t change throughout the show, not even once, not even when you expect that some change would come in him. The characters are interesting but do not develop. The conversations between characters can be interesting, especially in one particular case where Kindaichi has a conversation with the Puppeter from Hell, a rival but apart from that do not expect any character development because the characters keep changing for each case.
The anime does detective work extremely well. Setting up the case, giving us the clues and doing the ultimate reveal of the culprit, the anime does it all beautifully and each case will keep you engrossed because you can figure out some of the tricks but you will almost never be able to guess the true culprit until Kindaichi reveals him. The animation is good, nothing to write home about. The music too is good and set well according to the scenes. The bad thing about this anime is how there’s no consistent plot even with Kindaichi having 2 really good rivals setup for him.
No matter the reason for the crime, crime is always wrong. That is something that anime can show really well. Often times when the motive of the killer is revealed you would sympathize with the killer and maybe even think that Kindaichi will forgive the killer but no, Kindaichi stays true to his ideal of justice and never once does he forgive a criminal for their crimes. He stays a compassionate human to even the culprits but makes sure they pay for their crimes.
The anime has 47 episodes with 1 TV special. The only strong point of this anime is the detective work that it shows, the fell of the mystery is really well done and is quite entertaining. This is another one of the anime can be a hit or miss with people and completely differs from person to person. The anime can be rated at a 6 at most but I personally give it a 7 because of the hit of nostalgia it gave him. I won’t tell you all to immediately check it out but if you find the time do watch one case and see if you like it.
So that is it for this post guys hope you got some value from this. Thank you guys for reading to the end hit me up on Instagram and Twitter with your thoughts and if you have any ideas on what I should write about. Stay safe from the COVID-19. Thank you again and I’ll see you all next week.
Nine Peaks – Not a Tokyo Revengers ripoff
Hey guys what is up welcome back to my blog I’m so thankful that you guys took the time out of your day to read my blog post. Hope you all are safe and healthy. I knew I was reading this from the moment I saw it getting trolled on Twitter and I have to say I was right in my belief. MILD SPOILERS AHEAD.

The story begins with Mashio Gaku, a delinquent quarrelling with his easy going father who dislikes fighting. Mashio Harumi, Gaku’s dad dies in an accident soon after the quarrel with his son leaving Gaku devastated however seeing the amount of people turn up at his father’s funeral makes him think that his father may have been kind of a big deal. Gaku falls in the sea while fishing and gets out with the help of a stranger only to find himself in the year 2000 and the stranger is his father in his teenage years. Gaku decides to spend time in the past with his father watching and helping him become the top of Kumine and discovering what led to his father disliking fighting.
Mashio Gaku is our immature main character who despite having a seemingly I’ll relationship with his father is shown to actually want to spend time with dad. The clash of ideologies actually kind of reminds me of Thors and Thorfinn. Harumi, the badass dad is also an interesting character because his attitude is like that of a mature mentor character however he hides mysteries of his own.
The Blue Tiger, Kaidou is not a character who has been explored a lot however seeing how he’s involved he’s got to have more depth to him. Kanamori Souichi is a sophormore who is like the first boss of the series and Shiranui the senior is also an interesting character since he’s one of the major players for the throne of Kumine.
The series has incredible world building potential since the series will see Harumi take the throne of Kumine an entire town and not just one school, it gives immense room for character growth and different types of characters. The character designs are also quite good and I feel like the design plays a major factor in keeping the series eye pleasing after the great story. Now for the heart of the matter, the series being a delinquent time travel story but still having its own identity separate from Tokyo Revengers. I have to say that Tokyo Revengers simply made the time travel delinquent genre popular and that there’re so many fun things that can be done with this formula. I will be rooting for any author trying out new things and it’s honestly funny to see how many people dissed Nine Peaks for the clout and didn’t even give it a chance.
True strength will definitely be a theme in this series just like Vinland Saga because being strong and being eager to fight are two different things. Seeing Gaku be thrust into the cruel world of delinquents that he dreamed of and seeing his father who disliked fighting, fight in that environment provides us a perspective of not seeing a new king rise but rather seeing a king maker, a number 2 who is hot blooded and knows much much less.
Currently at the time of writing, the series has 3 volumes with 23 chapters and while that isn’t quite a lot it still gives a good idea of what the story will be about that’s cool action and emotions, I’m fully supporting this story and I hope it turns out good however considering the current situation I will give the series a 6/10.
So that is it for this post guys hope you got some value from this. Thank you guys for reading to the end hit me up on Instagram and Twitter with your thoughts and if you have any ideas on what I should write about. Stay safe. Thank you again and I’ll see you all next week.
Suzume – My First Makoto Shinkai movie.
Hey guys what is up welcome back to my blog I’m so thankful that you guys took the time out of your day to read my blog post. Hope you all are safe and healthy. This was the first movie I watched in theatres and also my first Makoto Shinkai movie and I was blown away. MILD VERY MILD SPOILERS AHEAD.

The story has Suzume Iwato, a high schooler meeting a mysterious man who asks her about ruins around the town. Intrigued, Suzume decides to visit the old ruins herself and finds out about the mysterious world of Gates, doors around the world that when opened will cause destruction on a massive scale. Teaming up with the mysterious male who identifies himself as Munkata Souta, a Closer whose job is to close the Gates scattered across Japan, Suzume embarks on the adventure of a lifetime.
While the story focuses mainly on our two leads that is Suzume and Souta there are a handful more characters to keep the plot interesting however I was amazed by the ability of the movie to go into depth with the characters in such a short period of time. Dreams, ambitions, life, sacrifice, the closeness of people to death all are beautiful themes that surround the characters and reflect them as well as their actions. Too much and it would be spoilers.
The animation is stunning, absolutely stunning in the movie, the world is crafted with beauty and elegance. The story is also thrilling, there’s not a moment that is boring or that isn’t moving the plot forward in some way or the other. The camerawork and voice acting, both things that I rarely (actually I don’t think I ever) talk about were both so spectacular that they didn’t carry the movie but rather complemented the plot in coming out better with more emotions and moving the audience. The pacing is also really good with the funny moments balancing out the thrill at all the right times to make the audience calm down after some spectacular action striking a perfect balance. The backgrounds and settings always complementing the scenes also elevates the movie. The music was also amazing which can be noticed by how much the tune is loved. The flaw of the anime is that there are multiple mysteries that are never really solved and seem to just be there for plot convenience.
The next paragraph will contain heavy spoilers so please skip if you don’t want that.
While I don’t know where Shinkai’s brilliance really lies, I do know that the theme of healing childhood trauma was most prominent and most beautifully explained through the movie. Suzume tragically suffers from loss and healing only with the help of her own older self shows childhood traumas healing only with our own growth. I loved that scene and I loved how it came out and pieces of media exploring themes is what any media should be about.
With a short 2 hour run time, Suzume is a movie that touched me a lot personally and is definitely something that can be majorly for everyone. The fantasy, the emotions, the animation, there is very well something for everyone. I rate the film a deserving 9/10.
So that is it for this post guys hope you got some value from this. Thank you guys for reading to the end hit me up on Instagram and Twitter with your thoughts and if you have any ideas on what I should write about. Stay safe. Thank you again and I’ll see you all next week.
Kaina of the Great Snow Sea – Stiff animation is worth it for an adventure.
Hey guys what is up welcome back to my blog I’m so thankful that you guys took the time out of your day to read my blog post. Hope you all are safe and healthy. I was interested in the plot of this anime but the animation was a big turn off for the first few episodes so if you cannot watch CGI then I will not recommend this anime but if you can then read ahead. MILD SPOILERS AHEAD.

Kaina lives in a world where people build houses on trees and the land is a mebrane like substance which is called the Canopy. This world gets its water from the Orbital Spire Trees, giant trees where the villagers built their home. However the canopy is high up in the air and below it lies the Great Snow Sea, an endless sea of snow. The people of the Canopy believe that life cannot exist down at the Snow Sea however down below countries are formed at the foot of the Orbital Spire Trees. Princess Ririha of Atland travels up the Canopy to look for the Sage, a being who she was told stories of by her mother in an attempt to save her country against the cruel Valghia who is attacking them for their water which is in the Orbital Spire Tree that Atland is built on. Ririha meets Kaina at the Canopy and the two team up to go down to the Great Snow Sea, a journey that will save the country of Atland.
This is a series that focuses much more on story progression than characters so the characters are really generic and don’t have that much depth. There’s the curious Kaina of the Canopy, a man who was supposed to simply serve as Ririha’s guide but ends up doing a lot more, however he’s more of a do things as they come type of person, a little bland. The Princess of Atland, Ririha has a bit of personality as her desperation to save her country is evident every time she tries her hardest for the slimmest of hopes that Atland can be saved from Valghia. The Valghian general Amelothee is also another character that is well written, her dynamic with the Atland elite warrior Orinoga is something that was good to watch,
The setting of a dying fantasy world due to the lack of water is a great one and despite the bad animation making the characters look stiff and really bad, they did manage to make the scenes of the world and the environment look amazing, it really invoked a sense of awe when you saw it. The anime knows how to keep the story interesting enough to keep you waiting for that next episode however the best thing was the fights which were few but each fight was absolutely amazing to watch. The fantasy world had immense and I do mean immense world building potential, they could have revealed so much lore and so many other things about the state of the world however I think that they were just confused between whether to go the fantasy or the lost advanced technology route and in the end just gave us a bad mix of both.
The anime is really simple and straight forward, it doesn’t go all that deep into anything however the one thing that I did learn was how fun a simple story could be sometimes, even though the story is predictable at times or the lore is so bad that you don’t understand anything about the world of the story, it’s just nice to see an adventure that is simple.
With 11 episodes, the anime is a short watch with a predictable yet good finale, it’s fun to watch if you can look past the bad animation but that’s all it is, a fantasy adventure for you to watch when you’re bored and just want to watch something that you can turn your mind off to. Do not go in expecting a lot but it’s still good entertainment, I’ll rate this one a 6/10.
So that is it for this post guys hope you got some value from this. Thank you guys for reading to the end hit me up on Instagram and Twitter with your thoughts and if you have any ideas on what I should write about. Stay safe. Thank you again and I’ll see you all next week.
REVENGER – Grudges, murder and repentance.
Hey guys what is up welcome back to my blog I’m so thankful that you guys took the time out of your day to read my blog post. Hope you all are safe and healthy. The animation of the first episode was what drew me in towards the anime and I am glad that it did because this was one epic journey and I enjoyed it quote a lot. MILD SPOILERS AHEAD.

Kurima Raizo is a smurai who is tricked by his superiors into killing his own father in law, in grief and wanting to die he comes upon Usui Yuen, a man who works for the organization known as the Chapel which takes revenge on behalf of people who burn their grudges into a gold coin by biting it. Teaming up with Yuen, Raizo takes his revenge on his superior only to find out that the conspiracy goes far deeper than he could have ever imagined. Becoming a revenger like Yuen and his team, Raizo swears to put the matter to a rest, killing all that stand in his way as he deals with different types of grudges and learns of the dark world of revenge.
This anime focuses a lot on the development and characterization of two characters, Usui Yuen and Kurima Raizo both of whom are incredible characters and deserved all the focus that they got. Usui Yuen is a revenger who works for the Chapel, a secret organization that takes on contracts in the form of bitten gold. Yuen questions the nature of revenge and repentance and which of the two should go for each perpetrator. Kurima Raizo is a samurai with a guilt conscience, he constantly battles with the guilt of the crime that he has committed, as the protagonist I really liked the conclusion to his arc. We have Soji, the drunk and irresponsible member of the revengers whose friendship with Kurima is another good dynamic. We also have Teppa and Nio, other revengers of the group that do not get as much focus.
The good animation is one of the best parts of this anime because some scenes can be absolutely beautiful to watch, a contrast to the dark and grim world of revenge that we follow. The action is decent, I didn’t find it really overwhelming or anything like that but it was still good to watch. The mystery of the story is another thing that it does well, constantly revealing connections between characters and the true nature of some of them. The pain of the people that are unable to take their own revenge is well represented despite begin such a heavy theme, you will feel bad for each character that asks for their revenge. The one bad thing is that sometimes some characters get little screen time but are constantly refereed to later on in the plot which can get confusing.
“Should a culprit be allowed to live if he repents?” This is a question that the anime asks, I won’t spoil too much but this something that we can deeply ponder on, every criminal deserves punishment but does a person who has repentance and guilt for the crime deserve to be punished as well? Can it not be that the person that has committed a crime can someday turn their life around but can never get that chance because they are punished? It really is interesting and the anime shows an interesting take on it as well.
12 episodes makes REVENGER a short watch with a finale that concludes Yuen and Raizo’s arcs absolutely beautifully. You should get in it if you like a mystery with loads of action and seeing characters with great depth, for the conclusion alone is worth it. The anime is a solid 8/10 in my book.
So that is it for this post guys hope you got some value from this. Thank you guys for reading to the end hit me up on Instagram and Twitter with your thoughts and if you have any ideas on what I should write about. Stay safe. Thank you again and I’ll see you all next week.
High Card – Superpowers and the mystery behind them.
Hey guys what is up welcome back to my blog I’m so thankful that you guys took the time out of your day to read my blog post. Hope you all are safe and healthy. I really thought that this anime would be some psychological card games however not being what I expected doesn’t mean that High Card still isn’t a good anime. MILD SPOILERS AHEAD.

The royal family of the Kingdom of Fourland holds a secret deck of 52 playing card which gives superpowers to the person who uses them effectively making them “players”. The cards were stolen from the royal family and scattered across the country causing many people to become ‘players’. Finn Oldman, a small time thief struggles to get enough money to save the orphanage that raised him before the landlord forces them out. In a desperate attempt to raise money Finn visits the casino and witnesses a bloody fight in between players for the cards that they hold. He is recruited into High Card, an organization that works under the King of Fourland to recover the cards. Working undercover during the day as car salesmen for the Pinochle Old Maid branch High Card works to fight criminals using cards for their greed and recover them. Finn who joins up for the money, enters into a world where everyone has secret plan to use the cards and no one’s true intentions are known.
We have the protagonist Finn Oldman, a petty thief who wants to save Sun Fields Orphanage, the orphanage where he grew up. He suffers from Amnesia about a specific incident which is truly very exciting. We have his mentor Chris Redgrave, a cocky and confident ladies man who is focused on doing the job right at all times. Leo, the branch manager and the leader of High Card has issues with his father that are left unexplored. Wendy, a samurai girl and Vijay, a guy with plant powers make up the team of High Card, though Chris and Finn are explored deeply with their motivations and dynamics with each other, the others don’t get as much depth except Wendy who gets a full episode to herself. I really look forward to the characters getting more screentime in season 2.
There’s nothing that’s really outstanding about the anime, if anything tis the concept as a whole and the amount of mysteries that the story contains even after a full 12 episodes. However the creative powers are definitely something that the anime should get credit for because every card user that we see has a unique power and the way they use it is unique as well making the action of each episode feel fresh. I was annoyed however at how they hinted so much at bigger things going on behind the scenes for the plot and the world however there is no follow-up to most of that at all, I really hope that season 2 follows up on all of those leads because S1 is a whole setup that delivers on characters and not story.
I was really annoyed by the 10th episode because I knew that there was no way that I was going to get the answers that I wanted about the lore and the other mysteries of the story however a season 2 announcement made me excited for the finale all over again and I feel like that showed me that sometimes patience is key when watching a show because I know I would not have enjoyed that finale as much as I did had I not known that the questions I asked still have room to be answered in another season.
12 episodes makes High Card a short watch but that’s just for now because we already have a season 2 announced and I believe that we will be looking at the greater things in there and I hope that we do because I really think that the series has loads and loads of potential that could make it skyrocket in rating but for the time being, only considering what we have, I will rate the anime a 7/10.

Blue Lock – Battle Shonen Football with lots of emotion.
Hey guys what is up welcome back to my blog I’m so thankful that you guys took the time out of your day to read my blog post. Hope you all are safe and healthy. I know that most of you that are active in the anime twitter community or anitwt already have opinions on this anime, either you think it’s good or you think it’s the worst thing every made, well I think I’ll be showing why a battle Shonenesque, hyped, filled with emotions anime can be good. MILD SPOILERS AHEAD.’. MILD SPOILERS AHEAD.

Isagi Yoichi passes at a critical moment in a tournament causing his team to not score and his high school team gets disqualified leaving him frustrated. Meanwhile, The Japan Football Association hires Ego Jinpachi to make the Japanese nation team win the World Cup. Ego reveals his plan to be the creating of a facility known as Blue Lock, a training ground to train the ultimate egoist, a striker who will never pass and score 100% of the time. Blue Lock sends out invitations to 300 players with Isagi being one of them. Isagi accepts the offer however the training method of Blue Lock is not what one would expect, striving to be the best in the highly competitive environment of Blue Lock, Isagi and 299 other strikers play to become the world’s greatest strikers with failure meaning they can never represent Japan ever again in soccer, effectively destroying their football careers.
Blue Lock shines with its characters, giving each of them their own motivations and goals for joining Blue Lock as well as their their very own unique ‘egos’ which is a key part of Blue Lock. We have the main character Isagi Yoichi who is eager to be the best but realizes his level pretty soon in Blue Lock, however he strives on with the dream to be the greatest striker in the world. We have Kira Ryosuke, a player who is eliminated early showing what kind of players Blue Lock needs, completely selfish egoists. The incharge of Blue Lock Ego Jinpachi despite not looking like much knows exactly how to make the players under him stronger. Bachira Meguru, the crazy dribbler with a really sad backstory is one of my favourite characters. We have the Ichigo looking guy, Kunigami Kiniku with the dream of being a soccer superhero. These characters all have amazing depth but any deeper analysis on them makes the ‘mild spoilers’ thing change to ‘major spoilers’ and I don’t want that.
The nice visuals are the first thing you notice about Blue Lock even though at some very specific places we can nitpick, the majority of the episodes look good. The egoist type of play shown in Blue Lock can seem like it really doesn’t make any sense in the real world but the anime does know how to utilize it fully and how to not contradict itself when playing soccer in teams. The plot is also constantly moving, every match making sure that things stay interesting. The soccer of Blue Lock actually makes some amount of sense believe it or not but then again I am also not a major soccer fan so I may be wrong. The intensity of a battle shonen, often described as childish in anitwt is the best part of the anime since you’ll get connected to the characters, you get sad when they lose and hyped when they win, this connect to the characters is what makes the intensity and emotional moments perfect for Blue Lock.
Changing ideals to become better. The anime while talking about this point doesn’t mean to tell a person to completely lose themselves but shows that only through constant evolution a person can survive in Blue Lock and I believe that that is also the case in real life since without growth there is only stagnation and stagnation is not good at all.
24 episodes in total, a second season and movie already announced and a finale that makes me want to dive into the manga as soon as I can, the intensity of Blue Lock that some way consider its weakness are its biggest strength and I would definitely give this anime a solid 8/10.

Fate Coin – Money doesn’t remove misery
Hey guys what is up welcome back to my blog I’m so thankful that you guys took the time out of your day to read my blog post. Hope you all are safe and healthy. This is a bit of a different comics from PTJ company and while I don’t think that its their best work, I also believe that it needs time to grow so regardless, a review is in order. MILD SPOILERS AHEAD.

The story shows MC Euijin and his friend Junhyeong living a night of luxury by spending money at an expensive hotel only they aren’t rich, the money that they are using is borrowed and they plan to commit suicide together. However before saying, Euijin asks Junhyeong to put the remainder of their money in a new cryptocurrency called “Fate Coin” which was basically a joke. However minutes before they die, the value of the coins shoot up like crazy and this begins a tale of deception and greed that will expose to us true human nature.
I feel like even after 1 story arc being completed, there haven’t been any major developments in the characters just yet but then again its way too early to judge if there are developments or not. Our MC, Euijin has a very sad backstory which shows that he is pathetic and deserves some happiness but in the end we see that he too is not immune to human greed. His friend Junhyeong who is shown to be petty and greedy despite being MC’s friend for a long time. We have Lim Ahyun, MC’s girlfriend and a character that teaches him that people can lie to you. Finally, there’s Choi Kangmok a realist in the story. He’s the mature mentor type of figure to Euijin who also has real struggles of his own to deal with.
The manhwa can be considered a story about how a real person would act if they got all this money. The manhwa talks about how human greed changes people even the ones closest to you. It shows that even with money you can be unhappy and yet also talks about how money is needed in life. The manhwa can be considered more like a social commentary with a story but it also has some funny moments while also talking about the brutal realities of the world. While there seems to be no direction that the story is going in, the manhwa still is interesting enough to make you want to read more.
Greed changes people. That is the core of this manhwa. We see many different examples of how greed changes people, people who once thought you to be a nuisance suddenly get close to you in hopes of getting some money out of you. That said, greed also changes a person, we see that MC is greedy not only for money but also wants a better life, he wants it but can’t figure out why he doesn’t have a better life even with money.
The manhwa is completed at 40 chapters and there were a lot of places to take this story to but as for now that ending is satisfactory at best. If you want a little bit of social commentary mixed in with comedy and an interesting plot that might teach you a couple of things about the dangers of crypto, this is a manhwa you should try checking out. It’s one of those things that may hit or miss.
So that is it for this post guys hope you got some value from this. Thank you guys for reading to the end hit me up on Instagram and Twitter with your thoughts and if you have any ideas on what I should write about. Stay safe from the COVID-19. Thank you again and I’ll see you all next week.
Questism – Solo Levelling in high school
Hey guys what is up welcome back to my blog I’m so thankful that you guys took the time out of your day to read my blog post. Hope you all are safe and healthy. PTJ company doesn’t miss when they draw manhwa seriously. Mild SPOILERS ahead like usual.

The story starts off with loser Kim Su Hyun being bullied by his classmate, Choi Changdon. In his desperation and desire for revenge and a better life he screams out for a quest window to appear infront of him and it does. Learning that he can complete certain quests given to him now to grt stronger and get revenge on his bullies as well as live a normal life, Kim decides to do the quests which will start him off on a journey that not only lets him conquer his high school but also the entirety of Gangbuk. This is the story about Kim’s journey to the top and what the truth about the system that appeared infront of him actually is.
I really liked the underdog, zero to hero storyline that this manhwa does with the MC because seeing Kim Su Hyun go from being a bullied loser who is pathetic and fed up of life, all the way to, beating his bully, Choi Changdon and even further is really nice. The MC has a good sibling dynamic with his sister Kim Daeyun and I liked that because that humanizes an MC for us to relate to. There’s the bully girl Baek Chaerin who the author is playing a “will they won’t they” game with because I suspect she is an LI but at the same time she’s not contributed significantly to the story yet. There’s other characters like Yang Soha, Ko Hajun and leaders of other schools all of whom are interesting characters and yet this early in the manhwa are still a mystery.
The manhwa looks like a classic straight from the start with the MC being a loser and the using the system to get stronger. In that respect its like Solo Levelling but the way the system is so well developed and used in a high school fight setting will really impress you as well as make you wonder what could happen when these enemies are beaten. There are really cool and badass fights which is to be expected and Johan from Lookism is mentioned so maybe he’ll make an appearance. The manhwa also is really comedic with some really good art. The only flaw is that its confusing with its uncreative high school names which makes me mix up the characters at times.
Things won’t always go your way in life. That’s what this manhwa shows really well in my opinion. While its used more as comic relief we can see that the MC doesn’t actually want to fight more than he has to but the situation demands that he fight and he does that so even after getting the system its not like his life has gotten better rather the problems that he was facing have just changed.
The manhwa is ongoing at only 26 chapters released till now and the story has a lot of places to go from herr which really makes me curious about just how far they’ll take this manhwa but I know that PTJ company won’t disappoint so there’s no need to worry. If you want a classic underdog to hero story, more of a system, game styled manhwa like Solo Levelling or are just a fan of PTJ,

Tales of Greed – Moral stories that are worth a read
Hey guys what is up welcome back to my blog I’m so thankful that you guys took the time out of your day to read my blog post. Hope you all are safe and healthy. Another one from the PTJ universe only this one is a little different so the review will be more like the one I did with Api Bungaku. Anyway there’s only a small description of events ahead so don’t worry, only a little bit of SPOILERS.

This Webtoon is very different in the fact that it’s episodic meaning that one arc contains a few characters and things they do and the next arc completely shifts to a different setting with no relevance to the first one. You could think of it like a collection of short stories which actually would be the best way to describe it. These stories are aptly titled, “Tales of Greed” because the stories are all stories of people having supernatural occurances happen around them and trying to exploit them and their greed teaches them a good lesson. While some of these are wholesome as a way of pacing the stories, most are dark and disturbing.
Since the Webtoon moves to different characters so often we don’t get to see every character in great depth but what we do see actually tells us a lot about the characters, some are simple people who want more and more from the world, the others are people tired of the world and want revenge on it. Either way we get to see their morals and values fairly quickly because of the situations that they are put in.
The Webtoon gets you sets you sucked in right from the start with it’s intense stories. The fact that it doesn’t shy away from anything makes it very good because we get to see some of the worst things that people do and them getting karma for it while also seeing some fairly disturbing things that I don’t think I should write over here. The Webtoon can be funny at times and as I said also wholesome but some of them gets scary psychological, things that if you think about, will really scare you.
The lesson is too simple, greed will lead to your downfall. In all the stories, the people who use the powers that they have been granted for hurting others or taking what isn’t theirs, lose out and have to face their karma.
The Webtoon can be considered complete at 39 chapters though the author has said that there will he more stories in the future. I have loved this short Webtoon that I binged and while it is

Manager Kim – An amazing father with an amazing story
Hey guys what is up welcome back to my blog I’m so thankful that you guys took the time out of your day to read my blog post. Hope you all are safe and healthy. I’m jumping into the PTJ verse comics now and I’m going in with high expectations, this first one, Manager Kim did not disappoint at all. SPOILERS AHEAD.

The story shows us Senior Manager Kim, a hardworking man and a loving father. He has a young daughter named Minji in high school but he’s also an ex spy, ex special forces and a guy who has 2 units dedicated to him. He quit his job in the special forces to live together with his daughter but what happens when that daughter is taken away from him ? She’s missing and seemingly dead. Manager Kim will stop at nothing to get her back. It doesn’t matter if they’re street thugs or the Korean military themselves, what matters to Manager Kim is his daughter. This is the tale of him getting his daughter back.
I loved that this manhwa had characters that connected it to the other PTH universe comics. Of course there’s Manager Kim who has made an appearance in Lookism as well, he’s a man who is usually avoiding trouble and trying to live a simple life but when things come to his daughter, a switch is flipped and he won’t stop at anything for his daughter. His daughter Minji acts like a typical teen. She doesn’t know her father’s skill and is a brat overall. Then we have Song Hansoo, Father of Taehoon from Viral Hit (always suspected there was something about him). Also Park Jincheol, Dabin’s dad from My Life as a Loser. There are many good characters but since the story is still in only its beginning phases and its more of a thriller than a personal journey, I believe there isn’t much character development which isn’t needed.
The manhwa has an incredible story start and it manages to keep that feeling throughout the read. There’s extremely brutal fights which you would come to expect from a manhwa that is connected to Lookism. There’s also really cool spy stuff that makes you feel like a fascinated child again. I have already stated the amazing characters that are present in the manhwa. The thing that makes it so good is the gradually rising stakes as we progress through the story going from gangsters to professionals.
The manhwa gave me a simple lesson. If you have something precious then don’t stop at anything to protect it. It’s as simple as that, as much as you can, struggle to protect what’s precious to you because simply giving in is not the way but what Manager Kim also does is not pick useless fights just because he’s strong. He wants to live quietly but when there is a serious threat he doesn’t back down teaching us that its not about being tough when things are good it’s about being tough when its needed.
The manhwa is currently ongoing at 26 chapters and while I do feel that there are numerous places for the story to go from here I think that waiting and watching is the best thing to do because another PTJ universe manhwa also ended at around 40 chapters. But if you liked Mamager Kim from his appearance in Lookism or if you simply want more of the action that the PTJ universe comics present or you just want a good thrilling story, this is the manhwa for you.
So that is it for this post guys hope you got some value from this. Thank you guys for reading to the end hit me up on Instagram and Twitter with your thoughts and if you have any ideas on what I should write about. Stay safe from the COVID-19. Thank you again and I’ll see you all next week.
My Bad Boyfriend – From romance to a thriller
Hey guys what is up welcome back to my blog I’m so thankful that you guys took the time out of your day to read my blog post. Hope you all are safe and healthy. Another story of the Blue String universe, no connections made yet but I want to say that this story’s tag was a bit misleading, you’ll see soon enough. MILD SPOILERS AHEAD.

The story begins with school delinquent Junhyuk confessing to Yujeong Cha and asking her to date him. In the moment, being timid, Yujeong agrees to date Junhyuk. After spending time with him she realises that he is not as bad of a person as shr thought him to be but Junhyuk has secrets of his own. He’s got enemies of his own and he has a reason to date Yujeong Cha. Their past connects them both and what begins as a seemingly innocent romance between a timid girl and a well being rough guy, turns into a thriller with revelations, violence and murder coming into play. Just what are the secrets that Junhyuk holds except from being a misunderstood bad boy ? How will these secrets affect Yujeong ? That is what you’ll have to read to find out.
The characters in this manhwa at first seem to be like common characters of what you’d expect from a manhwa like this, there’s the innocent girl Yujeong who is confused by the sudden romance in her life and is trying to find out the truth behind the rumours about the bad boy Junhyuk who is a mystery of his own. There’s, Juhee Seo the best friend of Yujeong. Mieru who is Junhyuk’s friend. Seonho, Junhyuk’s other friend and interested in Juhee. While at first I thought I knew these characters, the plot developed in a way which made me feel that I didn’t know anything about these characters.
The manhwa is really funny at the start when it’s all slice of life and the art is pretty good too but the manhwa has quite a few flaws that you wouldn’t expect from a Blue String universe manhwa. The first is that the fighting in this manhwa is not like the others so consider it more dramatic than action packed. There’s quite a few slice of life and romantic moments earlier on in the series but as the series progresses we move more towards the thriller part and the romance is nearly forgotten except for serving as a plot point. While the story that develops later on is very thrilling and exciting, the first few chapters are something that you need to bear but atleast we get cute Yujeong for it.
The manhwa really just goes with the classic, don’t judge people from what they are on the outside and it’s very true and it’s not because Junhyuk is someone who’s just very kind hearted and is misunderstood as a delinquent, we truly never know about his true character until after a bit further into the plot so you should give props to this manhwa for fooling you, if you do get fooled that is.
The manhwa is currently ongoing at 46 chapters and the the translations are slow but the story seems to have reached it’s climax but I’m not sure about that. This isn’t the type of manhwa that I’d reccomend straight away like all the other Blue String universe ones, you have to be someone who likes dramatic sequences in order to like this manhwa because the action is not very good but the drama and thriller parts are absolutely amazing and can keep your attention.
So that is it for this post guys hope you got some value from this. Thank you guys for reading to the end hit me up on Instagram and Twitter with your thoughts and if you have any ideas on what I should write about. Stay safe from the COVID-19. Thank you again and I’ll see you all next week.
Hanlim Gym – Fighting, crime and development
Hey guys what is up welcome back to my blog I’m so thankful that you guys took the time out of your day to read my blog post. Hope you all are safe and healthy. Ever read Study Group ? If you haven’t then do make sure that you read it, it’s amazing. But if you have then you all remember Gamin’s uncle, well this is the story of that badass in high school and how he rose to be the person we saw in Study Group. As usual, mild SPOILERS ahead.
The story shows us Yeongha Jeon, the leader of his high school who was formerly bullied but once he started punching bag he realized that he was the strongest. Now at the top of the food chain, savoring his new title as the toughest guy at school, he meets his match when Suho Kang, the Champion of the PVP games, single-handedly takes down him and his crew. To earn back his honor, Yeongha decides to join the PVP games where there are no rules, only pure violence. Throughout the way he tussles with people much stronger than him and with the help of the Hanlim Gym he becomes stronger but also a better person. Will Yeongha be able to take down Suho ? This is his journey.
The characters of this manhwa are many due to the unique system of the PVP games and while that alone lets us meet lots of new characters, there are others introduced as well and Hanlim Gym does well in making us understand the characters and make them feel more human rather than one dimensional even without giving them a backstory and thise that get their own backstories, those characters are a delight of their own. We have Youngha Jeon, the MC who wants to take down his rival, Suho Kang, the champion of the PVP games. While Suho is kept as more mysterious we get to dee Youngha in much detail. There’s also Hanlim Lim, the girl on who’s name the gym is named and a really good fighter. There are other characters as well but as you know by now, I don’t like spoiling things.
The fighting is so very good, it’s on the level of Study Group with each fight being intense while also showing us what the fighter is thinking, what their strategies are and what growth they are experiencing through the fights. The action sequences are intense and well thought out because they feel like a movie if you’re imaginative enough. There’s also the fact that the system that the PVP fighting tournament implements is system and easy to understand which lets us enjoy the action. Another good thing about the manhwa is the development of Youngha from a street thug to a martial artist which includes not only an increase in strength but his mindset in which he gives up all the useless pleasures and trains only himself. The pacing can fall short at times with some fights feeling a bit too long.
The manhwa really shows us through the MC, the difference between a martial artist and a street thug. Like I said before, Yeongha not only gets stronger but also changes his mindset. He gives up the useless pursuit of alcohol and other pleasures because he wants to get stronger and that is something that we should all learn from. In order to be better we need to give up on the useless pleasures of the world and focus on our own selves.
The manhwa is currently ongoing at 113 chapters, and I’m sure we’ll be getting more and more of this story because things are getting interesting. There’s the fact that Yeongha needs to climb to reach Suho, a delinquent alliance is also moving behind the scenes and Yeongha still has to master Jeet Kun Do. Regardless if you like martial arts and some good fighting then you should check this manhwa out because with its simple plot and yet deep world, it’s an interesting manhwa.
So that is it for this post guys hope you got some value from this. Thank you guys for reading to the end hit me up on Instagram and Twitter with your thoughts and if you have any ideas on what I should write about. Stay safe from the COVID-19. Thank you again and I’ll see you all next week.
To not die – When the victim pushes back
Hey guys what is up welcome back to my blog I’m so thankful that you guys took the time out of your day to read my blog post. Hope you all are safe and healthy. Here’s another one from the Blue String universe. I think I’ll just read them all at this point because they’re amazing. As usual, mild SPOILERS ahead.

The story follows Im Dajun a high school student who gets bullied at school every day. On the day he decides to commit suicide, he comes across an interview on TV about a student who had murdered his classmates that bullied him. Dajun becomes inspired by what he saw and decides to take revenge as well. However, his life steered into an undesired direction. Im Dajun ends up leaving the school and after meeting a strange but strong guy on the streets he joins a Runaway Fam. Now Dajun is free from his school bullies but life on the streets is not as easy as it seems to be at first. Learning how to fight from his runaway fam with the desire to take revenge, Dajun finds out that there are much more violent people in the world than just school bullies, and his strength, will be useful in dealing with them to stay with his new family.
The characters in this manhwa are not really developed all that much after the MC. Dajun is a person who is seeking strength in order to get his revenge on an unfair world only to be met with the more brutal realities of the world. There’s the strange man he meets on the streets, Cho Hangil who takes Dajun in and teaches him how to fight because he saw potential in him. Carefree and yet cunning, he’s the leader of the runaway fam. There’s Cha Daeyeob the red-haired runaway with a specialty in Judo. There’s Kim Taek a long blue-haired runaway who knows kickboxing. Ha Sungbin, the dark blue-haired who’s a great boxer. And lastly Hong Gayong, the girl who knows wrestling. All these characters are the main cast so to speak but only Daejun gets development while the rest of the characters are just there. They are interesting and fun to watch but you cannot really connect with them.
The manhwa has really good intense and brutal fighting. That’s where it truly shines, in the fights that Daejun fights, his using street tricks and other methods to beat opponents stronger than him gives the entire manhwa a very Holyland-like vibe. The mental growth of Daejun is also shown very well as he grows from being a bullied kid with low self-esteem to someone who has confidence and doesn’t stand down in the face of wrong. The good fighting and strategies combined with the zero-to-hero storyline with the MC make for a good read however I would love to see more character development for the others in the runaway fam as well because that is where this manhwa lacks.
The manhwa shows how a bullied kid who was pushed too far by his tormentors starts down a path that is very difficult. Daejun is pushed over the limit and only then does he get brutal and fights like a madman to survive. I feel like it shows that not everyone who is living on the streets wanted to live that life but in their desperation, they committed acts from which there was no going back leaving them to find some sense of happiness in their street life as some like Daejun plan revenge due to their bitterness that they just can’t let go. I think it’s up to a person’s personal opinion to think that what Daejun did is right or wrong but what we have to remember is that this story isn’t trying to glorify the things it shows rather it shows the reality of that which we know little of while providing us some entertainment.
The manhwa is completed the first season at 66 chapters and I’m desperately waiting for the second season. While not as good as it, if you liked Holyland and want a story that is similar to that then you definitely need to read To Not Die, the story of a boy pushed too far who just wants to survive with some great action and fighting.
So that is it for this post guys hope you got some value from this. Thank you guys for reading to the end hit me up on Instagram and Twitter with your thoughts and if you have any ideas on what I should write about. Stay safe from the COVID-19. Thank you again and I’ll see you all next week.
The world is money and power- Gambling, scheming and revenge
Hey guys what is up welcome back to my blog I’m so thankful that you guys took the time out of your day to read my blog post. Hope you all are safe and healthy. So in case you guys didn’t know, Study Group and True Education are a part of the Blue String universe and I have managed to find out the rest of the comics in that universe and read them. This is one of them. As usual, mild SPOILERS ahead.

The story follows Gunwoo Dahn, son of a politician who has gotten invovled in a scandal, forcing Gunwoo to transfer schools but the school Gunwoo has picked is special in its own way. Mireu High used to be a school for delinquents and troublemakers but all that changed when Taekyeong heir of the Songmyung group transferred to the schools and offered the principal a deal, introducing gambling to the students to contain the violence and the system worked out with Taekyeong and his 7 friends being the top people at the school but Gunwoo is here to shake up the system. With a secret motive for wanting to take down Taekyeong, Gunwoo will do everything in his power to upturn the system, using violence where his wit and smarts fall short, we will follow Gunwoo as he takes down the corruption in Mireu High.
The characters in the manhwa are interesting. We get to see our badass MC Gunwoo who has the charm and wits to gamble in the school and take it over. He makes fasy friends with studious and serious student Hyeonmin who is also unhappy with the school system. We also get to see Gunwoo’s old friend Buddha as both of them share a unique friendship. There are other characters that are introduced and while not all of them are given very detailed backstories we know just enough to know their motivations and what kind of people they are. An example would be our MC, he’s fighting for his own justice but he doesn’t care about the others he destroys in the process. His morals are in a grey area where he’s working for what he considers good but the tactics he employs aren’t the most virtuous. The other characters are unique and have their own reasons for gambling, personal or petty.
The mind games of this manhwa are the real peaks, the gambling games are nicely set and while there are some games that are easily recognisable, some of them are new and all of them are interesting to see. The psychological aspect of the games are where the manhwa actually truly shines. The art of the manhwa is amazing as well. The manhwa adds to the realism of the whole “gambling controls everything” by showing us how the school runs on gambling with various aspects such as exams and even the snack store. There are various cool moments in the manhwa but not the kind of amazing fights you come to expect from Study Group. The manhwa might seem predictable at first but the plot twists keep the story fresh and always keeps you guessing. The manhwa is still young so I feel that it will be able to overcome its lack of backstory very soon.
The manhwa very much talks about one theme that stands at its centre and that is, “everyone only cares about their own self interest.” This is shown multiple times throughout the entire manhwa and the MC himself stands as an example of this ideology but another thing that the manhwa teaches by showing us these elite students and their gambling is that “no one is untouchable.” No matter how tough, no matter how wealthy, no matter how powerful, in the end everyone can be beaten.
The manhwa is currently ongoing at 50 chapters and is going strong with it’s plot. With its intense mind games and unpredictable plot twists and a very basic story in a completely new setting, The world is money and power is definitely worth checking out if you’re into either any of the other Blue String universe works or if you liked Kakegurui or if you’re just looking for some good story because this one has it.
So that is it for this post guys hope you got some value from this. Thank you guys for reading to the end hit me up on Instagram and Twitter with your thoughts and if you have any ideas on what I should write about. Stay safe from the COVID-19. Thank you again and I’ll see you all next week.
Alice in Borderland – A deeply psychological death game
Hey guys what is up welcome back to my blog I’m so thankful that you guys took the time out of your day to read my blog post. Hope you all are safe and healthy. I thought about watching the Netflix show for this one but then I just settled for the manga and it is a wild ride. MILD SPOILERS AHEAD.

The story starts off with Arisu, student who is dissatisfied with his life and spends his time with his only two friends, Chouta and Karube. One day the trio suddenly see fireworks in the sky and suddenly wake up in a seemingly post apocalyptic world. The trio explore the world and soon participate in a ‘game’ with a woman they meet which are represented in type and difficulty by playing cards. Understanding they they are in a place known as the Borderlands where they need to participate in the games to survive which if they fail means death, Arisu and his friends clear a game and get what is known as a ‘visa’ which allows them to stay in the Borderlands for a few days. If this visa expires, the player will be shot by a laser beam from the sky. Wondering about the many mysteries of the world of Borderlands and seeking an answer for what happened to them, Arisu decides to survive in this world to uncover the many many mysteries of this world.
The manga has some good character development. We see Arisu who is our main protagonist and constantly changes or evolves his goals throughout the duration of the manga as he experiences new things in the Borderlands. His character as a whole is very interesting to me because of how scared he acts just like a normal person would in that scenario and yet also manages to calm himself down and clear the games. Showing his psychology of him always chasing after a goal and then being shattered when it’s not what he thinks it is is really interesting to me. This constant destruction snd rebuilding is what causes true growth in him. There are other amazing characters as well such as Usagi, a mountain climber who becomes Arisu’s primary love interest. There are more supporting characters too but telling too much is a spoiler and you know I don’t like spoilers.
I like the games that are setup in the manga which are both variations of simple things such as Blackjack and completely new games and concepts which will make you stop and process the rules. The strategic moves and mind games are the best thing about the manga which really makes me think that this story should be seinen rather than shounen but that’s just my personal opinion. The manga manages to draw you in from the very start and keeps that interest throughout the story even when it deviates into side stories which focuses on other characters. The manga doesn’t forget these characters and develops all of them with their oen unique backstory.
The manga goes deeply psychological with one question and that is ‘Why do you live ?’ and without providing an answer for it, the manga teaches a lot of things. The manga shows that everyone has different thigs that they hold dear and different things that makes them want to live and this very theme is central to the last game of the manga and I think is something that people can reflect on and truly try to understand what their purpose is in life. The manga also dives into survivor’s guilt and a good look at that allows people to understand trauma victims just a little bit better.
The manga is finished at 93 chapters if I remember correctly with all the side stories and lots of chapters being divided into 2 parts. There is also a short sequel called Alice in Borderland Retry which is of 13 chapters and can be read if you want to see how Arisu ends up later on in life. With it’s interesting plot, many mysteries, great strategic mind games and even good action combined with it’s psychological themes, Alice in Borderland is one manga that will immediately go into your top 10.

Sakamoto Days: A rising star in the manga world
Hey guys what is up welcome back to my blog I’m so thankful that you guys took the time out of your day to read my blog post. Hope you all are safe and healthy. I got this one from twitter as well though it was a comparison of how a certain character looked like Draken from TR but that doesn’t matter. Mild SPOILERS AHEAD.

The story tells us about the legendary assassin Taro Sakamoto who met a lady and fell in love with her. He decided to retire from the assassin world and live a normal life with his new wife even having a child. 5 years later, Sakamoto is out of shape and enjoying his life, supporting his family by running a store. One day a clairvoyant assassin Shin comes knocking on his door because a hit has been put out on Sakamoto’s head. Even though Sakamoto is out of shape he quickly and non-lethaly defeats Shin showing that the legendary assassin hasn’t gone soft. Learning that there is trouble in the assassin world with the hit on his head, Sakamoto tries to find out the truth about who placed the hit while balancing his family life at the same time.
The manga is only in it’s initial 60 chapters so it’s too early to judge the characters but I can tell you that these characters are a lot of fun. Our very own chubby assassin Taro Sakamoto who is basically a Japanese John Wick, is a fun character who has his light-hearted moments with his deadly ones. Even if it seems like we’ve seen his development that isn’t quite right because even after all these years we see that Sakamoto also has somr things to learn. There’s the clairvoyant assassin Shin who also struggles with his own issues and gets help from Sakamoto in both becoming a better assassin and becoming a better person. We also have Lu, a traid descendant who helps Sakamoto. We have all these and more characters all of whom are exciting to get to know and to see in action.
I liked the great comedy that the manga provides as nearly every chapter makes you laugh out. The characters are easy to understand and the plot though easygoing at first slowly picks up the pace and slips into a comfortable rythm atleast according to me. Though the best thing has to be the completely over the top and John Wick style action with broken buildings and stuff. The action is never boring and will always keep you entertained and wanting to read more as you progress through the story.
Though Sakamoto Days isn’t a serious manga it can teach us still and while the value of life is definitely talked about, there is something less obvious and that is comfortable in being ones self. We see this with Shin and Sakamoto both as they struggle a bit with being themselves and eventually come to terms with it.
The manga is ongoing at 60 chapters and is only in it’s first major story arc I would say. There’s a definite direction that the story is going in and it’s an interesting direction, the entire plot is interesting but I think that the main selling point of the manga has to be it’s action. The art, the story everything else is secondary in my opinion but the action is the best.
