Black Bullet: Thrilling but missing something

Hey guys what is up welcome back to my blog I’m so thankful that you guys took the time out of your day to read my blog post. Hope you all are safe from the COVID-19 and having a great day. I don’t exactly regret putting this one off for so long because it so did not live up to the hype of what I was thinking it was but it was good watch regardless. SPOILERS AHEAD.

In the year 2021, humanity is ravaged by the epidemic of Gastrea, a parasitic virus (I’ll admit I was anxious when I saw this), and is forced to live within large Monolith walls, which are created from Varanium: a metal that is able to subdue Gastrea. Soon, it is found that children who were born with the Gastrea virus obtain superhuman abilities, they are dubbed “Cursed Children”. Due to the Gastrea virus’ intervention (and the author’s want to make this a loli harem anime), the Cursed Children could only be female. Civilian Security agencies are formed to specialize fighting against Gastrea, operating with the pair of an Initiator, who are cursed children, and a Promoter, serving to lead the cursed children. Ten years after the epidemic, Rentaro Satomi, a high school student who is also a Promoter in Tendo Civil Security Agency owned by his childhood friend Kisara Tendo, along with his Initiator, Enju Aihara, fights against the Gastrea trying to maintain the peace and safety of Tokyo Area, getting pulled into a war much greater than themselves.

The characters in this show are not at all lovable or relatable. I love seeing characters grow from their past selves into something new even its a cliche thing like learning to make friends or something like that but this anime had none of that. There are characters that appear in EVERY SINGLE OPENING and don’t show up until like the last 3 episodes who have no backstory and no development and are just there for the sake of being there. Even the main character Satomi Rentaro is shown to go through no development at all, despite experiencing tragic losses and seeing heavy discrimination in the world he stills believes and keeps being the hero of justice that he is at the start of the show. I get the fact that he’s written to be kind and gentle but despite sympathizing with the discriminated against Cursed Children he does nothing to help them except stand up to the people in that very moment. The only character development is there for Enju whose backstory we get to see. Characters showing up and then instantly dying makes me feel no emotional connect or sympathy for them, the show really messes it up since despite having great characters it can’t handle them properly. I loved the character of Kagetane who acts as a really really great antagonist and he is the only person with any sort of personality in the show.

The show has the best opening ever so much so that I never skipped it even once in the entire time that I was watching the show but that creates a problem as the opening is so so great and the show is well…. not so great. The show can give you some good action at times but I hate that they pick up a plot point that seems like it will develop into something major and then just completely drops it, never to be mentioned again, while it doesn’t do that all the time like in the last few episodes things that are shown to us actually mean something but the other times it isn’t so great at remembering the plot points that it shows us.

The show deals with discrimination and how political power plays are always happening even in a war torn world, the greed of the people doesn’t stop. The discrimination is handled pretty well since from the start and throughout the show we see how the Cursed Children are forced to bear abuse from the humans and still having to protect them by fighting as Initiators and even there they are treated as equipment by their Promoters. The greed of the people on the other hand plays a major plot point for only a few episodes but even then it shows how humans still want and thirst for power even when the world is in ruins. Discrimination is present in out society as well, heavily and you can’t deny that and I think that the show really manages to get through the point that those being discriminated against are fighting their own battles and don’t need the extra pressure.

The ending of the show isn’t all that satisfying since most of the questions that are put forward by the show itself are left unanswered, such as “What are the Gastrea?” also “What is the mystery about the Tendo family ?” The show reveals a big secret at the end which is totally unexpected, we are given no clues for it except in just the previous episode. Regardless of these flaws, the show can give you some great action and the bonding between Enju and Rentaro is great (When it isn’t getting into the lolicon territory in the name of ‘comedy.’) I was thinking about picking up the Light Novels but then I found out that its cancelled as well so I’m not jumping into a half completed story. The show might leave you frustrated at the beginning but I assure you once you watch it you will appreciate the action and while the show does seem to be missing something you’ll surely remember it.

Rap section:

Everything was going great and then a virus wiped the world out,
Gastrea creating monsters across the land throughout,
Power plays are in position no one knows about,
All they know is that they need to find a route.

Humanity is crushed but politics doesn’t end,
On confirming their power every penny they will spend,
And the way from the gastrea to defend,
Is to put people in groups and fight with a friend.

Hiding up his power Rentaro’s coming in,
He was just living the simple life when,
When a new monster comes from the city within,
And now a new adventure for him begins.

Teaming up with Cursed Children he’s got to work,
Got to prove they’re not equipment to the opponent jerk,
Harm his partner Enju and watch him go beserk,
This is a war torn world it ain’t gonna end with a smirk.

So that is it for this post guys hope you got some value from this.  Thank you guys for reading to the end hit me up on Instagram and Twitter with your thoughts and if you have any ideas on what I should write about. Stay safe from the COVID-19. Thank you again and I’ll see you all next week.
