Hey guys what is up welcome back to my blog I’m so thankful that you guys took the time out of your day to read my blog post. Hope you all are safe from the COVID-19 and having a great day. Sometimes a good slice of life anime is what you need to de-stress and ReLIFE is everything to help you de-stress and think about your own life. SPOILERS AHEAD.

The show starts off with Kaizaki Arata, a NEET dropout from society who quit his job and is working part time to sustain himself, lying to his friends that he has a job and is driven into a corner in his life. He is approached by Ryo Yoake, a man who works for ReLIFE laboratories. After telling Kaizaki that he has been chosen for the experiment to reintegrate society dropouts like him back into society by having them go through high school again, the time where people go through the most change, the goal is to make them relive and understand the emotions that they have forgotten by getting into society. Kaizaki, though skeptical hears that he will be paid his living expenses as well as get a job at the end of the experiment agrees to it. He goes back to high school where he is surprised that Yoake is a student there as well. Planning to keep his head down and breeze through the year Kaizaki instead gets wrapped in friendships and making bonds leading us through his journey of ReLIFE.
The characters are the thing that make the show worth it, be it the socially awkward Hishiro Chizuru who is trying to make friends for the first time in high school or the nice guy Oga who is trying to help Kaizaki pass his make up exams. There are tons of characters and each have their own little story arcs which help them progress through high school and Kaizaki using his knowledge of society and being a grown up helps his friends as well as starts to grow himself. The others in the cast are tsundere type Kariu who has pretty clear feelings for Oga but refuses to act on them as well as an inferiority complex. Then there’s Onoya who is the same as Kaizaki but hides a secret of her own. Watching all of these lovable and relatable characters work their way through their final year of high school is heartwarming and lovely.
The show deals perfectly with past trauma and the experience of seeing a man who has already lived life last high school come back and grow with young people is something extraordinary and really worthwhile. The music in the anime is really good as well with the ending sounds and background music as well as the opening being something you can’t skip. The comedy is really well written with the pacing between the thrilling and relaxed portions being well done for the first 13 episodes with the last 4 being not as good.
Regret and change, are the main themes of the show as I picked up with Kaizaki dealing with his own last trauma and the regret he had for not doing anything, his ReLIFE helps him come to terms with his past and understand that he has to move forward as his past actions have also had an impact. The second one change is very prevelant as the characters are in high school the time where everyone goes through some change and discovers more of themselves. Whether it’s Kaizaki learning that he wants to help people grow or Oga coming to experience love, Hishiro learning to smile, Kariu dealing with her inferiority complex or Ryo coming to terms with his own last failures and his role as supporter in Kaizaki’s ReLIFE it all teaches that growth is never easy and change is constant. We all go through regret in our own lives and to deal with that we need to do it like we did in high school, take one thing at a time, learn how to be comfortable with change and keep moving forward while being a bit carefree about everything and having fun. Life is an experience and we need to go through both the good and the bad and then move forward.
The ending of the show is good only at Episode 13 with the twists revealed there as the last 4 OVAs are rushed and don’t provide as good a ending as the manga would with its slow pacing. So my advice is to leave out the OVAs watch only till episode 13 and then head on to the manga. A slice of life anime that can teach you life lessons as well as help you relax, ReLIFE is definitely a must watch. I’ll go on ahead and read the manga so I can get the full ending to the story.
Rap section:
Jobless young man living life as a failure,
Given up on life but he’s got kind behaviour,
In the form of an experiment he meets a saviour,
To bring inside his life changes major.
Kaizaki Arata working man goes to high school,
At first his new life seem to be very cruel,
Gradually he builds up his life and now it’s cool,
But can’t tell anybody about this ReLIFE that’s the rule.
He’s being observed and those around him he’s changing,
Making friends finding love new experience gaining,
Sharing his wisdom but he’s got to hide his aging,
To make the best of his life that’s remaining.
Helping out his friends and dealing with strife,
Through his negative self he’s cutting through like a knife,
Getting popular and he’s becoming the hype,
Kaizaki Arata learning to live with ReLIFE.
