Hey guys what is up welcome back to my blog I’m so thankful that you guys took the time out of your day to read my blog post. Hope you all are safe from the COVID-19. I think that this was my best anime for mind games, it’s like you’re watching the mind games of death note but on a lighter tone. I definitely recommend this to all, just please watch it alone.

The story takes place at Hyakkaou Private Academy, a place where the rich and influential send their kids to learn and become future leaders of the world but this academy hides a secret and that is that you’re not judged by grades or sports rather by gambling skill. Sounds crazy right? Well it surely is because at this academy if you lose your money and go into debt you’re treated as a house pet, someone even less than human until you pay off the debt. Enter Yumeko Jabami a compulsive gambler, a Kakegurui. When she first steps into class she goes against Saotome Mary who attempts to hustle her and get her money but Yumeko proves to be smarter and outwits Mary. Seeing that the woman ruling at the top of this power structure is the Student Council president, Kirari, Yumeko decides that she wants to go up against her in an attempt to find someone as crazy as her to gamble with.
During the course of the story Yumeko gets to gamble with a lot of different people in different games which I salute the author for writing also every single person at the academy cheats but Yumeko proves smarter than them, outwitting them and bringing her opponents to their knees. Now as for character development, Yumeko doesn’t develop at all that is because her character is perfectly written, she isn’t driven by a sense of justice or by emotions from a past, all she wants is to gamble and the higher the risk, the more her excitement. Yumeko doesn’t have any emotional moments in the anime but that isn’t to say that there aren’t any emotional moments. There are other characters who play a major role in the story and Yumeko with her gambling either makes their lives better or worse. Yumeko is a Kakegurui in the very essence of the word, she gambles for the sake of gambling and you cannot forget her words after her very first match, “A gamble where my victory or my opponent’s victory is fixed isn’t gambling and I came to this academy to gamble”. The limits to which Yumeko goes also shows her intense trust in her friends and in her luck, she doesn’t want to cheat her opponent, she wants to fight fair and leave it all up to chance to decide the winning factor. Over time you will see jut how much she can bet on a gamble.
The anime uses a lot of symbolism such as the last episode of the very first season which involves a game using Tarot Cards. The anime has a generally tense atmosphere and the one thing I noticed is that we never hear Yumeko’s thoughts but of the other characters, she reveals her plan using her voice but not once do we see her thinking style. I think that implies a lot on just how clever and perfect Yumeko’s plans are. The first season gives most of the spotlight to Yumeko and I liked that I always love her character but other characters have their moments too, emotional ones that change their thinking and which makes you wonder what Yumeko really is an angel to help people or a devil to ruin them? The answer is that she isn’t either she is just there to gamble. The second season gives more spotlight to side characters like Mary and Suzui and introduces new characters which further depends the plot and brings new games. Yumeko helps a lot of people throughout her journey so she does take on the classic Main character mantle.
The finale of both the seasons is great and makes a complete game of chance but with the ned of season 2 there maybe a season 3 in the works or maybe it’s just my delusion because I want a season 3 so bad. The anime has a good soundtrack, not great but good. Also, if you hear the words, “Let’s get our gambling freaks on” you are in for a nice episode. As for the question the anime puts forward I think that it is, “What if there truly was someone with no fear to challenge authority?” and I think that personally if such a person exists they could turn the world upside down like Yumeko. Also the takeaway from this anime should be fearlessness and don’t gamble.
Rap Section:
A private gambling academy where there are no rules,
People that can’t win they are treated like mules,
But Yumeko Jabami’s here to take on all these fools,
Her attitude and intellect make the perfect tools.
She doesn’t have fear her opponents say she’s crazy,
She’ll take everyone on yeah she ain’t lazy,
But don’t even think of going against her baby,
With your tears she’s gonna make your vision hazy.
She ain’t after small fry she’s going for the top,
All of her opponents now like flies they drop,
It’s a dirty academy and she is here to mop,
She gets what she wants she ain’t gonna stop.
All of these rhymes couldn’t describe her if they tried to,
She’s got her friends behind her yeah that’s her crew,
And if she comes there trying to gamble with you,
You bet to save yourself there’s nothing you can do.
