High Rise Invasion – A manga discussion

Hey guys what is up welcome back to my blog I’m so thankful that you guys took the time out of your day to read my blog post. Hope you all are safe from the COVID-19 and having a great day. I’m thinking of starting this new series where I’ll be discussing manga in depth. It won’t be like my anime reviews where I keep spoilers to a minimum. These are going to be FILLED WITH SPOILERS.

I was excited about what happened after the story of the anime ended so I picked up the manga and boy does it have some good scenes. They will be fun to watch animated. That aside here I’m going to be talking about the manga after the plot of the anime ends. That is after Honjo Yuri defeats the Great Archangel and subdues his power.

The character development is where the manga really flourishes this time around as before we saw each of the characters turning from scared newbies into hardened survivalists and now a battle for the skills of survival has started that is the battle against Aikawa for Honjo Rika. Yuri Honjo develops to become a stronger being for the world and to rebel against it like before and Rika and Sniper Mask show the truth about their vow of being cool. We see Aikawa’s true nature and the reason of the existence of the world out characters are in.

Let’s talk about the Great Archangel Vs Angry Mask scenes. That alone showed us how much the sense of justice drives Archangel and though it is comical at first, when we see why he truly does that it turns out to be extremely sad. The reality we see when he is revealed to be a sick kid who didn’t have any power in the real world turns him into a twisted kind of justice fighter believing that everything that stands against him is justice simply because he is one who was wronged and was the underdog in the real world. They resolve his storyline properly by leading him to come to terms with his condition and realizing that he needs to read the situation before deciding who is on the side of Justice. That fight also shows us Yuri’s nature of not leaving teammates behind because even though she knows that he would have attacked her if he were deployed against her, she still wants to save him showing her true nature, the nature to rebel against what she doesn’t like.

The Rika Vs Sniper Mask fight was the best ever, I was kinda confused when I saw that panel at the back of the volume saying, “When siblings clash in the battlefield where only the strong survive.” I thought that it was referring to a Yuri Vs Rika but the real curveball is that Yu and Rika are revealed to be blood brothers. This really releases all the tension that has been building up surrounding Sniper Mask and pitting the brothers against each other really is a good fight for them to see how they have grown and how they have become what they are.

I felt that the Administrator’s appearance was kind of rushed since he could have very well taken control of a mask to talk to Aikawa but he didn’t and instead chose the old man. I guess you could call it not forgetting the characters but it was kind of lame. That aside Aikawa’s death was an emotional one not because we connect with the character which I personally didn’t even after knowing his backstory. It’s because he sets Rika free and shows faith that if his philosophy is true then Rika will carry it forward.

The fight between Juo and Rika does show brotherly love but in the end I believe and he (like the Prophet) was more of a way to get Yoshida the final code and have the Administrator take him over. Juo also provided little for Rika’s character development since the Angry Mask interrupts them before Rika can take a heavy decision.

The final fight, Administration Vs Yuri Honjo is the second greatest fight according to my opinion in the series simply because it is too short. I liked the Great Archangel Vs Angry Mask fight much better but that aside. I loved how Yuri completely three away everything for the power needed to defeat the Administrator not caring that she would lose her life in the process or that she was facing a man who was once an ally (i.e. Yoshida.) The sheer scale and intensity of the fight is enough to give you chills even if you’re not seeing it animated. The ending is still dark since it resigns Yuri to a heavy fate of keeping the world in check and also Kuon while there is hope it is ultimately saddening to see Yuri rebel against the world until the very end only to learn that saving others was her true motive and that she would give up revelling against the world if it meant saving her friends. A really good quality.

All in all I think that High Rise Invasion Manga really handled things well with all of the characters giving valuable lessons, Yuri teaching to care for others before yourself, Rika teaching to make the best of your situation, Kuon and Nise teaching to be supportive and not be sad that you’re not the no. 1. And lastly Sniper Mask, he teaches us to live a cool life. That will be all please recommend me more manga which I can go in depth and analyse and until then, keep learning and keep growing.

So that is it for this post guys hope you got some value from this.  Thank you guys for reading to the end hit me up on Instagram and Twitter with your thoughts and if you have any ideas on what I should write about. Stay safe from the COVID-19. Thank you again and I’ll see you all next week.
