The Irregular at Magic High School: Magic, Music and Science

Hey guys what is up welcome back to my blog I’m so thankful that you guys took the time out of your day to read my blog post. Hope you all are safe from the COVID-19. WARNING: This is an anime with so much potential but the one bad thing about it is the incest so if you’re not into that thing turn back. The incest isn’t actual doing it but more of love confessions and flirty moments so if you can digest that then let’s move forward. Now that the warning is out of the way I have one more request if nothing then at least listen to the music of this anime I promise you won’t be disappointed.

The show starts off fairly well with showing us Shiba Tatsuya the amazingly strong and skilled yet quiet and wise hero of the show and his little sister Shiba Miyuki who is skilled in magic and has feelings towards her brother that he doesn’t reciprocate. They argue about Tatsuya not getting into the Course 1 of the school (Which is the section where magicians are honed) and instead being put into Course 2 (which is where the ones less skilled in magic are placed). Their argument ends and we immediately see the discrimination done against the Course 2 students at the school staring off with the Course 1 students being called Blooms and the Course 2 students being called Weeds. Despite this discrimination Tatsuya shrugs it off which so unlike any other character. I expected Tatsuya to be some sort of revolutionary in the school and change the system but the story this anime shows going further is so much better.

The discrimination part is basically the first few episodes of the show in which the hard core discrimination cause Miyuki to be put in a spot of whether to sit with her brother or her friends. Tatsuya acts maturely even here and simply moves out of the way. I love underdog stories and up until this point I was sure that Tatsuya was going to be a mature guy and teach Miyuki the realities of life or something like that as they go through high school. Wrong again. We are introduced to a whole amazing and lovable cast of characters and we get to see Tatsuya in action for the first time and let me tell you it’s satisfying. This and countless other actions of Tatsuya actually changes the outlook of the students on the whole Bloom-Weed thing and Tatsuya wins friends from both sides and even makes them work together. After this is resolved there are 2 more arcs where Tatsuya really gets to shine. The discrimination more or less comes to an end by the 2nd arc.

There are 2 issues of mine with this anime, 1 that there is just incest that I hate yet I swallowed and moved past it. The second thing is that there is just too much theory explained. The show uses a mix between magic and technology and it is explained a bit too thoroughly for my liking. I don’t complain that they put in the effort but I complain that they put in the effort yet I didn’t understand a word of what they explained. All I saw was a bunch of cool teach and badass magic and I loved it but the science I just sat through trying to understand but just couldn’t. If you don’t like science then I would advise you try to sit through the science and if you skip it there’s no problem at all. I personally think that there’s nothing wrong with skipping the science as it doesn’t contribute to the plot much.

The story in the anime is linear and moves in a straight line, it’s always one thing after the other. There is also a sense of mystery as to Tatsuya’s true identity. Which is another awesome moments in and of its own. The mystery element helped me get over the subtle and not so subtle incest. The fights in the anime are brief and not as long lasting as you would expect so that’s a bummer but the music is so incredible that it’s all worth it. The point where the story fails is that there is absolutely no character development of Tatsuya. We see an extremely skilled kid who’s doing things that no normal kid would do. By the end of the show all we see is Tatsuya’s true identity, his drive at the beginning of the show is to protect Miyuki and remains the same till the end of the show. I feel that we see a version of Tatsuya that should be endgame. He’s calm, cool, collected and you could say a smarter version of Light Yagami. He cracks cases and solves problems like a genius. Yet there’s also a strange likability to him, his nature and his actions are just pure you could say. Even when he has girls around him he doesn’t reciprocate any of their feelings.

The ending of the show is satisfying and opens up a whole world of possibilities for the second season. The sense of mystery that is resolved at the end just goes ahead to show us that there’s so much more to come from the show. The season 2 allows us a look into the workings of the families that control everything and other nations also get involved as Tatsuya becomes an even bigger target. The other characters also get a lot of spotlight and that’s good enough for me.

The 2nd season is also coming along really well as we get to see the scale of battles increase and Tatsuya also becomes more human and has more emotion scenes. We also see how the Clans work things and we see Tatsuya actually be unsuccessful for once. I recommend the anime to fans who can digest a little incest apart from that enjoy the anime.

Rap section:

First magic high that’s the school that I’m at,
Didn’t get into course one and my sister’s mad,
Everyone looking down on me here it’s kind of sad,
Watch their views change as I launch my attack.

I’m calm and cool, I’m not looking to fight,
But if trouble comes I’m not gonna hide,
When I’m done with enemies it’s not a pretty sight,
You scared and this isn’t even the limit of my might.

I’m reading your magic sequence before you release,
I already got a spell ready to make it cease,
Every time I get in a fight my skills increase,
But I don’t want it I just want some peace.

Most precious thing to me is my sister,
She’s making moves on me but I resist her,
I’m also an inventor in the skies there’s a whisper,
They try to hold me down but I just go faster.

So that is it for this post guys hope you got some value from this.  Thank you guys for reading to the end hit me up on Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn with your thoughts and if you have any ideas which I should write about. Stay safe from the COVID-19. Thank you again and I’ll see you all next week.
