Neon Geneis Evangelion – Mechas and Mental Health issues

Hey guys what is up welcome back to my blog I’m so thankful that you guys took the time out of your day to read my blog post. Hope you all are safe and healthy. I really didn’t know how to approach a review of this series because it’s just that grand and confusing. So I’ll review everything from the TV series to the movie and the Rebuild movies in one post. SPOILERS ahead for sure, I highly, highly recommend going into this series blind and forming your own opinions.

In 2015, fifteen years after a global cataclysm known as the Second Impact, teenager Shinji Ikari is summoned to Tokyo-3 by his father Gendo Ikari, director of Nerv, an organization created to battle Angels, beings that threaten the earth and humanity. To combat Angels, Nerv has created Evangelions, humanoid mechas that are piloted by specific children among which Shinji is known as the Third Child. Piloting the Eva(short for Evangelion) Unit 01, Shinji battles against the Angels and begins a journey that will reveal to him, the true nature of the Second Impact, the origin of the Angels, and most of all how he can save humanity. All of this while Shinji fights a personal battle with depression and social anxiety.

The characters are where Evangelion shines 1000%. All of the characters are unique and suffer from their own mental health issues and growth. Talking about these characters without spoilers is very hard for me so please if someone feels that I have written about only one side of a character understand that I do not wish to put up spoilers. Shinji Ikari is a teenager with depression and social anxiety who is our protagonist. A ‘weak’ protagonist is considered bad in the anime community these days but Shinji truly is a wonderful character who shows human qualities like compassion while suffering from depression. Misato Katsuragi is an official in Nerv who at first appears to be a free spirit but later on reveals a dark past, personal vendettas, and reasons for being in Nerv. Gendo Ikari, the father of Shinji shines most brilliantly in the Rebuild movies, especially the last one where all the times we see his actions contracting the picture painted of him make sense. Ayanami Rei, I have no idea how to speak about her character at all so I will simply say that I liked how she was written and she would have become my favortie character were it not for Asuka, a girl who at first I actually was annoyed by but as she showed her combat genius, past and how she suffered from separation anxiety, I loved her character as my favorite.

Evangelion is different from other anime with its characters, they aren’t fully established right at the start rather we see through their multiple layers as we go throughout the story. The series is highly Sci-Fi as one might expect but the series still strongly focuses on the characters first, then the story, and then the Sci-Fi stuff. The large-scale battles are amazing to watch, however as the original Tv series went further into being abstract and showing us inside the character’s minds it just gets better. I really liked the character designs of both the humans and the angels since each one was different and there were quite a few of them. The series deals with adolescence and the characters’ own psychology really well and the TV series shines there extremely well. The Rebuild movies are done well enough that they deserve their own review but I will put the best parts here. They manage to condense the story perfectly, the new characters are awesome, and they manage to symbolize really well, especially with Shinji’s tape player. They are bigger and grander and are the perfect ending to a series like Evangelion. One might say that there is much left unexplored throughout the series but I will say that the series manages to do what it set out to do.

Everyone is hurting inside, Evangelion manages to show the broken people that make up the world, their struggles, and how they try to fill their holes through each other really well and makes it pretty much the primary theme of the show so to speak. The series however also shows that one is in control of their life, especially with the ending of the Rebuild movies. Evangelion as a series explores so many different themes that it just wouldn’t be fair to talk about one and leave out the others and yet I must do it.

26 episodes, 5 movies. That is what makes up Evangelion, a show that starts off with something else and ends somewhere else and yet manages to connect everything together to tell a beautiful story that the director must be commended for. The Rebuild movies are continuations after the original series and the End of Evangelion movies, it might be confused as a remake but believe me, it is so much more than that. Even though Evangelion has its flaws, it will receive a 10/10 for me and a spot in my top 1.

So that is it for this post guys hope you got some value from this.  Thank you guys for reading to the end hit me up on Instagram and Twitter with your thoughts and if you have any ideas on what I should write about. Stay safe. Thank you again and I’ll see you all next week.

Shikimori’s not just a cutie – Not a masterpiece but overhated

Hey guys what is up welcome back to my blog I’m so thankful that you guys took the time out of your day to read my blog post. Hope you all are safe and healthy. This is one of the underrated anime in my opinion. The hate on this was crazy and I decided to watch it anyway simply to check out if the hate was accurate or not and we know that anime community hate rarely is genuine and in this case it wasn’t genuine at all. MINOR SPOILERS AHEAD.

The story is about Izumi Yuu, a high schooler who is extremely unlucky and always falls into trouble. However he has his cute girlfriend Shikimori to help him out who always protects him and looks cool doing it. This story follows their relationship as we watch them have their cute interactions.

The cast is pretty small in this one and it’s better this way because Izumi and Shikimori as the stars of the show and they shine well enough to make it seem that other characters aren’t needed at all. I personally love Izumi’s character a lot because even though he’s unlucky he’s also considerate and caring all the time while at the same time he is always active in his relationship with Shikimori in trying to make her happy. Shikimori on the other hand though initially simply seemed cute and cool to me, is shown to be a great character. Her backstory is better than even Izumi’s and you’ll definitely like it if you have patience. There’s other characters like the best friend type, Inuzuka. The athletic and over excited Nekozaki and the slow, lethargic, Hachimitsu. These characters play a significant role and are able to carry scenes without Izumi and Shikimori being there. They aren’t very deep but they are good.

The beautiful animation is the first thing that will catch your eye and let me tell you it is absolutely amazing throughout the show. It isn’t JJK but it’s still very pretty to look at. The comedy is also spot on with this series because every joke hits and the gags are never overused. The supporting cast is lovely and the anime though seemingly being a generic high school love story is very different because it shows us an already established relationship. The relationship though established isn’t exactly mature, Izumi and Shikimori get nervous around each other sometimes and yet they are also comfortable. This anime is definitely not for those who are impatient, we mostly see cute interactions between Izumi and Shikimori and between the rest of the group before we actually get to see how they came together and how they have grown. Since this is done differently, for someone like me who loves seeing character growth it was a surprise that we got a flashback so late in the show however the growth is still done really well.

The one important thing I learnt from watching this anime is that I should never trust the reviews. The horrible reviews of this anime are mostly people who are jealous of the healthy relationship shown in the anime and others aren’t interested in romance anime much most likely. The hate on the anime was insane but trying it out for myself I understood how misleading the majority can be at times. Izumi’s nature is also something I loved in the anime. Despite being an unlucky guy he never wallows in self pity rather he is also actively working to counteract whatever bad things his luck could cause and is constantly kind to people around him because he knows pain himself. There’s another theme that the anime explores with two characters which is sitting around and waiting versus actively doing your best and I liked that as well.

12 episodes short, Shikimori’s not just a cutie is a mix of comedy, loads of cuteness and some good themes. The finale is done well and I loved every part of this anime that is despite the hate it got and despite knowing that I’ll probably have people questioning this, but I rate anime objectively, based on how they deliver on what they promise hence I rate this anime 8/10 and a must watch for people who love romance.

So that is it for this post guys hope you got some value from this.  Thank you guys for reading to the end hit me up on Instagram and Twitter with your thoughts and if you have any ideas on what I should write about. Stay safe. Thank you again and I’ll see you all next week.

Home Sweet Home – Monsters and humanity

Hey guys what is up welcome back to my blog I’m so thankful that you guys took the time out of your day to read my blog post. Hope you all are safe and healthy. I was pretty disappointed with the ending of the other manhwa from this author titled Bastard. This one is also a great manhwa like the previous one, it even has a Netflix show. MINOR SPOILERS AHEAD.

The story starts with shut in high schooler Hyun Cha, a selfish jerk who spends his time spreading hate on the internet (yes MC is like most people on anitwt). Certain events force Hyun to move into a new apartment building and soon he is forced to deal with new circumstances and fight for his own life against monsters that ravage the world.

There are a significant amount of characters in this manhwa and while I’ll not lie and say that all of them are great, some of them are really good and others are simply average. Hyun Cha the MC is a selfish jerk or that is how he seems at first but as we explore his self loathing and depression we get to see just how tough he is mentally. His entire story is amazing and this is definitely not something I want to spoil anymore. These characters are all great however if I talk more about them then it will take away from the enjoyment of the series just know that these are great characters who all go through their own arcs and develop. It’s a good journey that will humanize the characters and make you empathize with them.

Like the previous work, the author knows how to set the atmosphere well with the panel placement which was a good thing in Bastard as well. The author manages to land all the deeply psychological moments exceptionally well and that is one of the best things about this series. The character designs are also good and variable enough that you feel the creativity. The action is also good because every fight is intense with high stakes and every situation always leaves you in anticipation of which side the victory will belong to. Parallels between the characters are also really well developed and shown. The series also handles some pretty mature themes like the degradation of humans in tough situations, survivors guilt and many other things. As for the bad things there were moments that made the pacing of the story seem off because the start is really slow and then it picks up.

The series blurs the line between humans and monsters to make you question the one thing that every good series that invovled monsters makes you question, “What defines a monster and what defines a human?” This is a question that is asked multiple times throughout the manhwa and in the end it provides the answer itself.

With 141 chapters and a finale that wraps up the story beautifully Home Sweet Home is definitely a must read manhwa. The depictions of violence and mature themes might not be for all but those that can digest it you will absolutely fall in love with the series. I will definitely rate this series a 10/10

So that is it for this post guys hope you got some value from this.  Thank you guys for reading to the end hit me up on Instagram and Twitter with your thoughts and if you have any ideas on what I should write about. Stay safe. Thank you again and I’ll see you all next week.

Bakuon Rettou – Bikers, Freedom and Rebellion

Hey guys what is up welcome back to my blog I’m so thankful that you guys took the time out of your day to read my blog post. Hope you all are safe and healthy. I like delinquent manga but this one is seriously something different, firstly because this is the story of the author himself and allows us a real insight into the character’s thoughts and because this one focuses not on being the strongest delinquent or being the largest gang, this one is about rebellion. MINOR SPOILERS AHEAD.

The plot follows, Takeshi Kaze, a troubled youth who moved with his parents to a new house and new school. One of his new friends is a motorcycle enthusiast and soon invites him to meet with his gang, the Zeros. Takashi comes to love motorcycles and finds himself attracted to the idea of the freedom tha comes when riding motocycles on the road. Soon Takeshi is invovled deeply with the Zeros as he sees the life that the bikers live and decides to rebel against society by being a delinquent.

Bakuon Rettou has a way of getting you to slowly like the characters, I didn’t like Ayase, the leader of the Zeros in Takeshi’s generation as much when he was first introduced but later on I came to respect him a lot. Kaze Takeshi, the MC is at first simply a troubled youth and that leads to him rebelling against a society which he feel sis not free since they are monotonous and do the same things without any freedom. However it is not Takeshi being cool as a delinquent but rather him maturing as a man that actually makes him such a great character and is really tough to talk about him without spoiling anything but I want you all to know that this is his story, his journey, not to be the strongest or the greatest but his rebellion against society. However that doesn’t mean that other characters are ignored such as Kazuya, a delinquent who Takeshi looks up to for a time and Shinji Miyamoto, a deep friend of Takeshi. There are other characters but talking about them will spoil the plot and I believe that this is not a manga you should be spoiled on this is a journey to experience

The manga is pretty good in showing the psychological affects of not being accepted in society and hence rebelling against the world which is what Takeshi’s entire character is about, rejecting society to live freely as a rebel. The series while being about a delinquent doesn’t once glorify the bike gangs or the yakuza in any way rather it only works to show how easy deaths come when one gets invovled with this and why the people invovled with it actually decided to risk it all. The art of the manga is also really great, moving bikes look beautiful and I truly believe that it only happens because the author has seen these very sights himself and is able to express them on paper beautifully. There’s a lot to talk about in the series but I can’t go blabbing on and on because I realize that talking about some things without the context of the story is simply boring.

Rebellion comes to an end however just becuase it comes to an end doesn’t mean that the rebellion was wrong in itself. Takeshi who goes from being a troubled youth to a biker shows immense growth through his rebellion however it is through his jounrey that we realize the very important message ingrained within the story. Takeshi always aspires to make the gang his job however he realizes that he too must grow up and pass the baton onto the next generation of Zeros and let them ride freely because he is growing into an adult. As we see Takeshi’s journey bringing him back to places where he first started from, we understand how his rebellion brought a great change in him and was worth it for him.

With 105 chapters I wouldn’t call Bakuon Rettou long however it is a journey that you might want to take slowly to truly take in the significance of the events that happen. The finale of the manga is absolutely amazing and while I do find it a bit rushed at a few parts I think that this was an amazing coming of age story that wraps up a young boy’s rebellion against society, his dream being only to remain free. I rate this story a solid 10/10 after much through from my first tweet about the ending simply because this story is one that hits hard and a little pacing isn’t worth taking off a whole point for. Yes, this is another manga in my 10/10 list.

So that is it for this post guys hope you got some value from this.  Thank you guys for reading to the end hit me up on Instagram and Twitter with your thoughts and if you have any ideas on what I should write about. Stay safe. Thank you again and I’ll see you all next week.

Zatch Bell – A battle shonen that gets things right

Hey guys what is up welcome back to my blog I’m so thankful that you guys took the time out of your day to read my blog post. Hope you all are safe and healthy. I was really excited to read this one because I realized that the anime of Zatch Bell was one of the first anime I had ever watched and the nostalgia was immense but don’t worry that doesn’t mean Zatch Bell will be overhyped, it’s a battle shonen plain and simple. MINOR SPOILERS AHEAD.

Kiyomaro Takamine is a genius 14-year-old junior high school student in Japan. One day, Kiyomaro’s distant father Professor Seitaro Takamine discovers an unconscious child named Zatch Bell with a strange book in a forest in England and sends him over to Kiyo in hopes of deciphering the book, written in a language that he cannot understand and determining Zatch’s past which he has no memory of and to cause development in Kiyomaro himself who is brash and arrogant. Kiyomaro discovers that Zatch is a Mamado, a demon and that the book helps Zatch cast lighting spells. Kiyomaro and Zatch encounter other demons over time and learn of the battle to determine King of the Demon World which involves 100 demon children being sent to Earth every 1000 years to team up with human partners. Events cause Zatch to develop the goal of being a King King and Kiyomaro swears to make Zatch the King, embarking on a journey filled with battles and hardships.

Zatch Bell has a cast that is filled with characters, the 100 demons and 100 human partners alone would make 200 characters that are supposed to be there. Of course, we do not see each and every character but we do see a lot of them, and talking about even one of them will ruin the fun of the series because Zatch Bell is a series that manages to deal with its characters and their respective arcs really well though in a short amount of time. Takemine Kiyomaro the genius MC who is rude and brash is not the most likable character at the start of the series however Zatch gives him the development he needs to grow from a loner to a proper man. Zatch Bell is an interesting character because there are similarities in the start between him and Kiyomaro in that they are both lonely however Zatch gains an ideal and a goal to strive towards and seeing him get serious about the battle to determine King as well as retain his playful nature is a delightful journey.

The manga is really funny from the start and manages to retain that humor for the most part of the series, though the humor brought about by a particular character made me deeply uncomfortable (you’ll know when you see it). The manga is a battle shonen that has good action with creative spells used by the demons and makes use of Kiyomaro being a genius to develop good battle tactics that don’t just reply on a battle of wills despite being a shonen. The manga manages to give you some pretty good emotions throughout with every fight and while some people may call it cringey, I would like to call it being a shonen at its core. The manga is also really great with its character designs since we get to see how different races live in the demon world too and each character is given a good design. The lore of the demon world is also decent in my opinion since it serves to increase the scale of the story to immense limits and explain certain things that would otherwise be considered for lack a better word, “too convenient” and in my opinion, could have been utilized better.

The manga isn’t good because of the battles themselves though, the manga is good because at the very center of the demons fighting is also a clash of ideologies, Zatch has the goal to become a king King however there are many other demons who have the desire to be other types of kings such as a ‘protecting King’ while none of the ideologies are wrong except a very certain few the clash is what is ultimately at the center of the battles and Zatch Bell manages to show that quite well in my opinion.

With 323 chapters, Zatch Bell is a manga that while seeming like another boring battle shonen is interesting because it shows the clash of ideologies. With an amazing finale that is built up by good characters, hype battles, and emotional moments, Zatch Bell cannot be lower than an 8/10 because it manages to get things right and not seem generic but rather be interesting and make you feel like a child once more.

So that is it for this post guys hope you got some value from this.  Thank you guys for reading to the end hit me up on Instagram and Twitter with your thoughts and if you have any ideas on what I should write about. Stay safe. Thank you again and I’ll see you all next week.

MONSTER – Truly a masterpiece

Hey guys what is up welcome back to my blog I’m so thankful that you guys took the time out of your day to read my blog post. Hope you all are safe and healthy. As someone who liked 20th Century Boys, I had to read Monster as well and I did and that was a good decision. Naoki Urasawa never disappoints us. MINOR SPOILERS AHEAD.

Dr. Kenzo Tenma is a young Japanese brilliant brain surgeon, working at Eisler Memorial Hospital in Dusseldorf in West Germany. Tenma realizes how bad the bias in the hospital and in the treatment of patients is and is faced with a chance to move up the ladder or be true to his own values as a doctor. Picking the former, Tenma operates on a boy who has been shot in the head and through his brilliant skill is able to save the boy however in the process he ignored the mayor which causes him to lose his standing in the hospital. However the boy Tenma has saved is no ordinary boy, he is special in ways that Tenma never imagined when he saved him. Tenma later discovers that the boy he saved, Johan Libert has become a serial killer and he takes it upon himself to fix his mistake by taking down Johan. He sets off on a journey that will challenge his ideals, show him the atrocities that wars make people commit, and finally, the truth about the man named Johan.

Monster is a manga that can be easily spoiled simply by its characters because it has a vast cast and all of them come together to create the beautiful tale that is Monster. We have the main character, Tenzo Kenma, a confused man whose guilt leads him to save Johan’s life but that in turn makes him question the decision and his ideals as a doctor. His journey throughout shows us how his ideals are challenged and solidifed until he realizes that one act does not make the value wrong. There’s the sparingly appearing antagonist Johan, the monster who is cold, manipulative, and calculating, the opposite of Tenma in terms of ideology and yet also similar. The story shows us what makes him the monster that the other characters claim he is. Anna Libert, Johan’s sister, and a really interesting character throughout the series has her own struggles throughout the story. There’s also Inspector Lunge, the man with a good memory from the BKA who is another interesting character with really good development.

The manga has some amazing buildup which though slow all pays off really well in the end because the slow pacing lets the manga flesh out the characters and craft a good story. The suspense and mystery atmosphere is kept throughout the series as whenever each question is answered it opens up the door for a new question and it all weaves together at the end. The series makes full use of the setting in post-Cold War Germany by showing us racism, the impacts of the fall of the Berlin Wall, and many many other things that make sure that you feel that the story is actually taking place in the setting that is shown and not some fantasy version of it. With the vast cast, the story is never carried by one character, Tenma and Johan do not always need to be on screen to carry the story forward since we can see the story from the perspective of a character we have never seen before and Urasawa will make it interesting while making us connect with the character and slowly weaving them in with our main cast. The slow pacing of the story is definitely something that will bug impatient people and the art is also somewhat decent which I think will be the only problems with the manga because the thing best about a thrilling mystery story is that it has no noticeable plot holes.

Are the lives of all people equal? This is the question that is shown at the very beginning of the series and is a very beautiful question because both the protagonist and the antagonist of the series answer it though very differently, if you don’t want spoilers then skip ahead. Johan says that all lives are equal in death while Tenma would say that all lives are priceless and hence equal. This difference and yet similarity between the characters is something that I found beautiful there are also other things in the series that will catch your attention and make you think. These different themes are what makes Monster so interesting.

Standing at 162 chapters, Monster is a manga with an epic finale that makes us understand each and every character deeply, ties up the different plot points, and in the end, provides a somewhat open ending after the epic finale. Monster is a solid 9/10 which only falls short because of the pacing which may bore some readers, other than that I would dare to call Monster, flawless.

So that is it for this post guys hope you got some value from this.  Thank you guys for reading to the end hit me up on Instagram and Twitter with your thoughts and if you have any ideas on what I should write about. Stay safe. Thank you again and I’ll see you all next week.

Bastard – Father VS Son

Hey guys what is up welcome back to my blog I’m so thankful that you guys took the time out of your day to read my blog post. Hope you all are safe and healthy. This one has been in my “to read’ list for far too long and I finally decided to give it a try. It was good and definitely enjoyable but just a little disappointing. Anyway like always MINOR SPOILERS AHEAD.

Jin Seon is a kid who is severely bullied due to his weak appearance and physical disabilities. Bullying, however, is not the thing that is Jin’s major problem in life, he lives with his dad, Dongsoo Seon who is a successful businessman and also a serial killer and Jin is his accomplice. For fear of his life, Jin lives with his father and helps him without reporting him however a new transfer student changes all that for him and he now wishes to fight against his serial killer father, as a bastard son.

The characters in Bastard are the main factor in making it is a good story. Jin Seon, the unwilling accomplice who is following his dad’s orders and helping him in his killings. Seeing him grow from a weak kid who is a pushover to becoming a mentally strong and partially mature person who wants to go up against hisd ad to protect what he has precious is a nice, though short journey. We have the dad and antagonist Dongsoo Seon whose manipulative tricks and cunning make the story really interesting though backstory wise he falls flat as an antagonist. Kyun Yoon is the transfer student that gives development to Jin, she doesn’t grow immensely throughout the story but adds a ton to it. And the last one I’ll talk about, is Manny Kim, the typical bully whose family and backstory make him one of the simplest and yet most complete written characters.

The art is not amazing in this webtoon, it’s not so pretty that you’ll spend minutes looking at each panel but the art style in itself is distinct, and manages to set the atmosphere of the story as I like to call it, really well and also portrays the characters really well. The Webtoon is one that dives straight into the action and provides a thrilling and exciting experience that always keeps you guessing over what will happen next. The mind games played between father and son and the tricks used are mostly realistic and not way too over the top however there are many plot holes such as characters showing up right where they are needed for the plot’s convenience and some other things that happen that are just basically plot armor and unrealistic. There’s also the fact that the backstory of a few characters is incomplete and especially the fact that we receive no reasoning or even a clear picture of the villain’s psychology. These are points that make this fast-paced webtoon feel like a badly written story.

Facing your fears and demon will bring you peace. While I do admit that bastard falls short when explaining the reasonings and personal philosophy of the characters, it does present some things fairly well through the MC Jin Seon. As we see him facing his fears we see that nothing goes as bad as he imagined and it actually helps him move forward, accepting his inner demons allows him to progress further and do the right thing. I can’t say anything more without spoiling stuff so I’ll stop it here.

The Webtoon has 94 chapters all available on the Webtoon app so definitely go check it out if you want a battle of wits and a story of growth. Bastard is a story that gives high after high and will make you crave ‘one more chapter’ until you eventually finish it. Though the story has its own problems, it also has good points and for that reason, I will be rating Bastard a 6/10.

So that is it for this post guys hope you got some value from this.  Thank you guys for reading to the end hit me up on Instagram and Twitter with your thoughts and if you have any ideas on what I should write about. Stay safe. Thank you again and I’ll see you all next week.

Wotakoi – The manga of the office romance

Hey guys what is up welcome back to my blog I’m so thankful that you guys took the time out of your day to read my blog post. Hope you all are safe and healthy. I wanted more Wotakoi and the manga is the best thing for it so I dived straight in. fun, light-hearted, and even emotional at times, Wotakoi is good. MINOR SPOILERS.

Narumi Momose who has just joined a new workplace is an otaku who likes to keep her habits secret from other people due to fear of being ridiculed. She runs into a childhood friend Hirotaka Nifuji at her new workplace. Hirotaka is a gamer who is open about his habits unlike, Narumi. Narumi is also friends with cosplayer Hanako Koyanagi who goes to the same office and Taro Kabakura who she is dating. The story is about these 4 characters navigating their day-to-day life while keeping up with their otaku habits and maintaining their own relationships.

The manga of Wotakoi is the same as the anime as in the romance is not between characters that are growing but rather between fully grown adults trying to fit in with their partners. It is hard to change as an adult and that is what this manga showed well. The characters do have small little changes throughout the course of the story but they remain majorly the same and do not change and while that may, make some people think that this manga is bad, it actually isn’t it’s good because of that. There’s not much to say about the characters, they’re well written, fun to watch in their antics, and together make the story one that can make you smile.

The romance in this anime isn’t typical either because normally romances are set in high school and involve teens who are still developing since the characters in this anime are all working adults the story is different and moves differently from a normal romance. The manga really expands upon how these working adults have to adjust to dating into their already busy lives all the while being otakus who want to enjoy stuff on their own too. The office romance might be really unrelatable for some people but I liked it and it was fun to read, though it’s really a hit or miss for everyone else. The characters all get a resolution to their relationships and understand each other throughout the manga which is really satisfying.

All romances are not the same, that is something that I learned from this anime. Even the two couples shown in the anime are all different in how they interact. One is new and moves slow and the other is all developed and moves differently. The reason I pointed this out as a takeaway from this is that people usually always look at other couples (usually celeb couples) and try to mold their own relationship in that image which fails miserably most of the time because every relationship is different and unique to their own pace.

The manga has 112 chapters in 6 volumes and is a delight to read when you just want to relax and have fun. The characters are all fun and while Wotakoi is a series that is aimed at working adults, I’m sure that other people can enjoy it as well. The nice concept, good comedy and slice-of-life moments, the nice portrayal of the relationship between the characters, and plenty of cute moments, Wotakoi remains a 7/10 even in the manga.

So that is it for this post guys hope you got some value from this.  Thank you guys for reading to the end hit me up on Instagram and Twitter with your thoughts and if you have any ideas on what I should write about. Stay safe. Thank you again and I’ll see you all next week.

Why pick up the Tomodachi Game manga

Hey guys what is up welcome back to my blog I’m so thankful that you guys took the time out of your day to read my blog post. Hope you all are safe and healthy. I really could NOT restrain myself from reading the manga after the last episode of the anime dropped so here I am. This one is near spoiler-free after the ending of the anime.

Firstly, let’s go into something that all non-anime watchers and anime watchers can relate to, the art of the manga which is really good. It isn’t highly amazing for something that comes out monthly but the art is still pretty to look at and I guarantee will not be a turn off at all even for the people who have quite high stnadards for when they read manga. The art is good but is at it’s best when it is used to express the characters’ emotions, feelings and thoughts like many psycholoigical manga do.

Next is something that was a major problem of mine with the anime and that is fixed in the manga and that is the pacing. The pacing of the anime always felt off because the episodes always tried to end on a high to keep the suspense going and the manga does that much more naturally without feeling like the flow of the story has been disrupted. The final arc (the current arc which I guess is the final one) might seem like it has pacing issues but I believe that that is because the arc is not yet complete and an incomplete arc always feels worse than a complete one.

The anime adaptation of Tomodachi Game was extremely faithful and was done well however there were some small little details that had to be cut out due to the limit of the episode only being 23 minutes which has to have, the OP, ED, and the actual episode as well. These small details are mostly insignificant and do not matter yet they make the world of Tomodachi Game feel better and the story overall just feels better written.

Of course, the story of Tomodachi Game goes much deeper in the manga and becomes a really exciting and engaging story that is near impossible to put down but with the dept in the story, which includes secrets being revealed and new mysteries being involved, the story overall gets much darker and I am not talking about slightly darker, the story gets much darker and may even be triggering for some people, however for some people who like mature themes and how they are dealt with, Tomodachi Game might be for you.

Finally, the intense battles that happen. I have to say that I enjoyed seeing Katagiri Yuichi fight in the anime however the real challenge only begins in the manga where there are smarter, viler and deadlier people who all challenge Yuichi and each other and the battles between them, seeing how they use their wits and how Yuichi outguns and outmaneuvers them is really interesting and a treat to read.

The manga has 101 chapters at the time of writing and is heading into its final so now might be as good a time as any to start the manga. The story of the manga is definitely deeper and better and despite the slight pacing issues (which like I stated before, I feel is mainly due to the story not being complete and the final arc still running) it is still enjoyable, hence until the ending is revealed, the Tomodachi Game manga is rated at a solid 9/10.

Jujutsu Kaisen – Stunning animation on an average story

Hey guys what is up welcome back to my blog I’m so thankful that you guys took the time out of your day to read my blog post. Hope you all are safe and healthy. The only reason I started this was because of the hype and well let’s just say that it didn’t satisfy my expectations at all. MILD SPOILERS like always.

Yuji Itadori is a high school student who is in amazing shape and is near superhuman. He has no interest in sports because he visits his grandfather who is dying. His dying grandfather tells Itadori to always help others so that he can die surrounded by people. Soon after the death, Itadori is contacted by a student from Jujutsu Tech who wants to know about the “cursed object” the finger of Sukuna who is the King of Curses. Itadori reveals that his friends have the finger and the student from Jujutsu Tech, Fushigoro Megumi goes to save them. Locked in a fierce battle where the Fushiguro is losing, Itadori eats the finger of Sukuna to gain the power of the King of Curses and begins a journey into the world of jujutsu where he will learn to control ‘cursed energy’ to fight curses, being born from the negative emotions of humans all to take the advice his grandfather gave him to his heart.

I didn’t really like all the characters in this anime but I suppose that that is because the anime was more focused on fights. The characters and the story overall take heavy inspiration from Naruto. There’s the teacher Gojo Satoru who is a cool, arrogant, and powerful sorcerer like Kakashi, Itadori Yuuji the MC is a caring person who is very kind and will jump into danger without any care about the consequences like Naruto. His desire to give people a proper death if they die was a good aspect of his. There’s Megumi Fushiguro, a serious guy who has a past connected to jujutsu and I can’t say he shares many resemblances to Sasuke but he is the aloof best friend guy but has a lot more diversity than Sasuke. Then there’s Kugisaki Nobara, a rude and narcissistic girl who has her own reasons to be a jujutsu sorcerer. She’s not much like Sakura but the author has to make something different. These characters all have their own different developments from the same missions that they go on which is one of the good things about them because even when I didn’t connect as well the growth was obvious.

Jujutsu Kaisen excels at animation, music, and fighting and works to combine the three to give fight sequences that are a delight to watch and somewhat make up for the average story. The anime also shows gore and dare I say it, even the animation on that is good, however, you may need to close your eyes at times if you’re too sensitive. I personally loved when we saw the politics in the world of jujutsu with what Gojo says as well as the 3 major clans because that is some dark stuff that I like. There are a few plot armor moments and some attempts at comedy that failed to make me laugh but the comedy may be able to make others laugh.

The human mind births disgusting things. That is what I pulled from this anime and I have a very good reason for that which is that the ‘curses’ in the show are shown to be birthed from the negative emotions of humans and the whole concept is really good. That is because we as a society never see what our negative emotions are doing but the constant negative emotions birth curses that can hurt humans in the show and while we may not have curses in the real world I sure do know that negative emotions cause harm.

The anime has 24 episodes and a movie that works as a prequel. Personally, I feel that this was just a prologue of sorts and a setup for what is to come. I might jump in the manga or just wait for season 2 whichever I feel like but I do feel that despite the amazing animation and music, jujutsu Kaisen has a mediocre story at least in the anime. For the animation and music and the character growth as well as the themes I will give Jujutsu Kaisen a 6/10 on the anime something that I hope the manga or season 2 changes because this is not a good score for something that was so hyped, it feels like the animation, music and pretty boys were all that people saw and never mentioned the lacking story.

So that is it for this post guys hope you got some value from this.  Thank you guys for reading to the end hit me up on Instagram and Twitter with your thoughts and if you have any ideas on what I should write about. Stay safe from the COVID-19. Thank you again and I’ll see you all next week.

My Dearest Self with Malice Aforethought – Crime fiction that shakes you

Hey guys what is up welcome back to my blog I’m so thankful that you guys took the time out of your day to read my blog post. Hope you all are safe and healthy. Another recommendation from Twitter this time, which by the way has a lot of good recommendations if you know where to look. Anyway, it had a long title but don’t worry, this one isn’t a trashy isekai, it’s really good. This is one I would suggest everyone go in blind hence I will keep the SPOILERS TO A MINIMUM.

Eiji Urashima is a college student who has a pretty average life, he goes to class, and sometimes goes out with his friends to drink and wants a girlfriend. However one day he sleeps only to wake up three days later, with a girl he doesn’t recognize in his bed who claims to be his girlfriend. In those three days, much has happened that affected Eiji’s life and he must work to find out the truth. Why did the girl in his bed suddenly become his girlfriend? What happened in the 3 days that he doesn’t remember? What dark and malicious secrets are hidden in those three days? And what secrets is Eiji himself hiding?

Writing about the plot and characters is the hardest thing ever for this manga because there is so much to talk about and yet I don’t want to reveal it all because I believe that it would ruin the experience for people. However, I will find a workaround by talking about characters briefly. Our MC is the most intriguing of them all, Eiji Urashima, a seemingly harmless guy who is actually quite mysterious. Any more than this is a spoiler I want to avoid. There’s also Kyoka Yukimura, the girl who showed up in Eiji’s bed, a reasonable girl who is given a lot of depth as a character and not used as just a dumb cute girl. Rei Shinmyoji is another mysterious character who is skilled and smart and has a personal connection to what happens to Eiji. Even though some of the characters can be called static, since the primary focus is always Eiji and this is a crime thriller that is more like a movie than a web series, they are never boring.

Since this is a mystery story, of course, the manga manages to set up that atmosphere quite well. The manga features some mature themes and also has pretty gruesome and dark scenes which are also well shown in a manner that I cannot describe so that’s a warning to the people who are faint of heart. I personally loved how simple it seems and yet how it gets increasingly complex with the plot twists that always keep the story fresh and keep it moving until we reach the finale which solves everything. It also talks a lot about several mental illnesses, some of the information is right and some of it is not since this si fiction so do not use this as a psychology guidebook. The manga never lets you believe anything because for all you know, anything can be a lie and anyone can be malicious. The story also manages to interweave the characters quite well because as we see, all of these characters have their own parts to play and they all fit really well, like pieces of a puzzle. The one thing that I personally found bad was that the pacing of the manga is really fast, something is always happening and you rarely ever get time to catch a breather, and sometimes that gets confusing.

The manga showed some really good themes like betrayal from loved ones, and the psychology of why some people become broken and further go on to be criminals but the thing that the show manages to show really well was how society acts in a way that is comfortable for them even when they are hurting people. I will not go into the details of what is shown but we as a society are easily influenced and make decisions that can harm others and are happy with that as long as we are comfortable and not harmed.

The manga has 98 chapters, in 11 volumes which has an absolutely stunning reveal at the finale that solves everything that has happened in the story, ties together all the different plot points, and concludes the character arc for Eiji. I objectively would like to rate this a 9/10 when I take into account the fact that the other characters though seemingly static always contribute to the story and are interesting, and the only bad thing about this story is its pacing.

So that is it for this post guys hope you got some value from this.  Thank you guys for reading to the end hit me up on Instagram and Twitter with your thoughts and if you have any ideas on what I should write about. Stay safe from the COVID-19. Thank you again and I’ll see you all next week.

Dead Mount Death Play – An interesting Isekai

I was very close to dropping this anime but it managed to prove itself and differ itself from the generic Isekai anime that we’ve been seeing. This one takes a lot of patience and you need to be forgiving for it to get good.

Sir Shagrua Edith Lugrid, a legendary hero is about to finish off a powerful necromancer known as the Corpse God. In an epic clash of spells a reincarnation occurs, in the body of Shinoyama Polka in modern day Shinjuku. Desiring a peaceful life, the quest to take care of the problems of Shinoyama Polka begins but the real Shinoyama Polka wasn’t all that simple or insignificant either.

Shinoyama Polka is an interesting character both reincarnated and in the past life, the quest for peace but being destined for war in a violent world and getting caught up in this world that is violent as well and has it’s own problems and still trying to survive is great. Other characters of DMDP are also good however only a few are great and really shine through, characters like Misaki while earlier interesting is later turned into an airhead and comedic character. The others however really really shine through.

Dead Mount Death Play has decent and clean animation, you won’t have a complaint but you also won’t be blown away by how great the animation is. The series can be comedic however in the earlier episodes it struggles to find its identity while juggling seriousness and comedy. Unnecessary ecchi scenes are also a very annoying thing in the anime. However in the latter half, the series picks up the pace and focuses fully on the story, finding the balance between a good story and ecchi. SPOILERS IN THE NEXT PARAGRAPH.

Dead Mount Death Play really knows how to make us sympathize with even a necromancer by making us see his perspective and his thoughts when he uses his magic. His conversations about his ideology were a delight to hear at times especially since they were hardly ever one dimensional.

12 episodes for Dead Mount Death Play and a 2nd season coming in October. The finale isn’t all that very fantastic as a finale should be but it raised a lot of mysteries and if they can execute on it properly in season 2 then it can be a good anime. I rate it a 7/10.

So that is it for this post guys hope you got some value from this.  Thank you guys for reading to the end hit me up on Instagram and Twitter with your thoughts and if you have any ideas on what I should write about. Stay safe. Thank you again and I’ll see you all next week.

Jigokuraku – Another new gen shonen?

You’ve heard about it by now if you’re in the anime community, it was all the hype when the manga was finished, when the anime was announced and when the anime was airing, Hell’s Paradise gathered a lot of hype and it had all the makings of a good shonen, fighting, emotions but it goes further and that’s what makes it even better.

Gabimaru the Hollow is a famous assassin of the Iwagakure who is awaiting execution but due to his superhuman body and abilities, no execution method can kill him until Sagiri from the legendary clan of executioners, the Asaemon clan appears. She offers him a chance at a pardon. He is to join an expedition consisting of death row inmates and Asaemon clan members to the legendary land of Shinsenkyo on a quest to find the Elixir of Life but the land of legend isn’t friendly and only one of the convicts will be pardoned.

The characters of Sagiri and Gabimaru are amazing, the way they complement each other and understand each other better throughout their journey in a hostile land. However the story isn’t carried by them and their developments and understandings alone rather other characters like Shion and Yuzuriha are more than capable of making the story proceed all on their own without the main characters. Gabimaru especially will win your heart and I can guarantee that personally because seeing him reveal himself from the Hollow that he is known as is an amazing journey.

Hell’s Paradise is gory with the fights, absolutely brutal but that all comes with great combat and good animation to complement it. Each fight is exciting and thrilling and draws you in easily. However as the story progresses, we also see the clash of ideas and motivations making Hell’s Paradise take a step further from being a good shonen.

Gabimaru’s and every character’s desperation to not die for whatever reason that they have is well explored even the shallow reasons feel genuine for the characters. The clash of want for godhood and want for just life is also well shown through a certain set of characters that appear later on in the story.

13 episodes and a finale that leaves you desperate for more with its revelations, Hell’s Paradise is a must watch for Shonen fans but it’s something that will appeal to anime fans in general. I rate it a 8/10 currently with a season 2 in the works.

So that is it for this post guys hope you got some value from this.  Thank you guys for reading to the end hit me up on Instagram and Twitter with your thoughts and if you have any ideas on what I should write about. Stay safe. Thank you again and I’ll see you all next week.

Heavenly Delusion – A Mystery that Keeps Going On.

Even with the changed format, I’ll still release a few posts that were already written in the old format. Now as for Heavenly Delusion, I’ll clear it out that I enjoyed it each and every single week and it has but one flaw, a flaw that can be easily fixed.

The story runs parallel with 2 sets of characters. One is Mimihime living in a facility with a bunch of other children. One of the girls, Tokio, receives a strange message that says, “Do you want to go outside of the outside?” Outside, 15 years have passed since a great disaster that destroyed civilization. Now a boy who looks like Tokio, Maru along with a girl named, Kiruko travels through Japan looking for Heaven.

The characters and their shared relationships are what majorly drive the story forward in this anime. Tokio, Maru, Kiruko, Mimihime are all characters majorly driven by their relationships and interactions with the people around them. I found Kiruko to be the best character personally and her connection to the people of her past as well as her current connection to Maru makes for some great scenes. I can’t talk about more of the characters without spoiling because Heavenly Delusion is an experience that gradually, one by one peels back layers of the mystery while developing its characters.

The animation is good, it’s smooth and it helps the combat shown in the anime really well. You could say that it fits perfectly like the combat and animation were made for each other. The anime knows how to perfectly keep it funny and keep it serious in balance at all times which only serves to enhance the experience. Heavenly Delusion also excels at showing the emotions, mostly sorrow, of characters through expressions, tone of voice and monologues.

As with every post apocalyptic anime, maintaining humanity while also surviving is thoroughly shown in Maru and Kiruko’s journey multiple times. The struggle to survive and the struggle to remain human clash in Heavenly Delusion as well. Now another thing that Heavenly Delusion does extremely well is identity, you might think that a certain character’s identity is talked about but that certain character goes through more conflict for their identity and I liked that a lot.

With 13 episodes, the only place that Heavenly Delusion falls flat is the ending. The finale feels like a weird stopping point, it leaves everything feeling unresolved and personally I didn’t like it at all. If anything I would describe it as a “that’s it?” kind of ending leaving us with more questions than answers. The final rating considering the one flaw of this anime is 9/10.

So that is it for this post guys hope you got some value from this.  Thank you guys for reading to the end hit me up on Instagram and Twitter with your thoughts and if you have any ideas on what I should write about. Stay safe. Thank you again and I’ll see you all next week.

My Home Hero – Murder for love

We’ll be changing up the format a little from now on, just know I still wish everyone well. Anyway, I’m a sucker for murder mysteries but what if we follow the killer ? And the killer is none other than a simple office working dad ? His reasons, his actions, his guilt, oh there’s a lot in this anime besides just thrilling cat and mouse chases.

The story begins with failed mystery novel writer Tosu Tetsuo visiting his daughter Reika who lives alone to see that she’s been abused, suspecting it to be her boyfriend Tetsuo launches an investigation into the matter that leads to a murder, a murder of a man from a very powerful organisation, an organisation that is connected to Tetsuo in more ways than one. Will his mystery novel experience combined with his wits let him survive? Or will Tosu Tetsuo die trying to save his family?

The characters are very strong in this anime, there’s quite a decent amount of them and they are all quite well written with plenty of mystery around them. Our main character Tosu Tetsuo’s desperation as a father is contrasted and complimented by the desperation of a Yakuza member Kyoichi trying to move up in the world for personal reasons. Wife and helper Kasen adds quite a lot to the story in more ways than one. Other organization members and the “main villain” are also well written characters especially with the villain also being a father who loves his family contrasting Tetsuo’s life while also being very similar. Two threads of the same rope.

Let’s get it out of the way, the animation is bad like not unwatchable but bad enough that it’s noticeable and makes the experience less exciting. The rest of the show is as exciting as it can get, each episode brings new twists and challenges for Tetsuo while also not being repetitive but leaving minor details in the story that culminate later on showing how well crafted of a story it really is. It’s a murder mystery from the perspective of a killer, we see guilt and shame but we also see helplessness and desperation, at some moments truly questioning if the acts considered evil as a whole by society can be considered as other than due to the victim and circumstances of the perpetrator.

My Home Hero is great at drawing similarities and contrast between ideologies of characters, wanting to move up in the world with loyalty in a world where loyalty doesn’t mean anything. 2 men loving their families, clashing because of the hurt caused by their children, longing for justice, longing for peace while locked in conflict due to their own actions. Personally I feel like it’s a nice touch to the already juicy mystery and suspense of the show.

My Home Hero has 12 episodes and the finale is intense and it cleans up the arc nicely if you’re like me however who noticed that there are a lot of things left unanswered then you’ll be into the manga too. It’s a good watch for mystery lovers like myself. The final rating considering the story and bad animation is 8/10.

So that is it for this post guys hope you got some value from this.  Thank you guys for reading to the end hit me up on Instagram and Twitter with your thoughts and if you have any ideas on what I should write about. Stay safe. Thank you again and I’ll see you all next week.

Erased – A murder mystery with a spin

Hey guys what is up welcome back to my blog I’m so thankful that you guys took the time out of your day to read my blog post. Hope you all are safe and healthy. I really need to start reading the manga of all the anime I’ve watched even those that have their story finished because the manga is often times just superior. MILD SPOILERS AHEAD like always.

Satoru Fujinuma, a young man living in Chiba has an ability he calls “Revival”, which sends him back in time one to 5 minutes before something bad occurs allowing him to prevent it from happening. A dejected manga artist, he is suddenly visited by his mother who is murdered in his own home. Satoru’s Revival this time doesn’t just send him back a minute or two before but rather sends him back eighteen years into the past back to his elementary school days because the key to saving his mother lies in solving the murders of students that happened in his childhood. Now on a journey that will help him grow and test his brains to the limit, Satoru battles to save the students and catch the culprit, to change the future.

The series is short and focuses on a few main characters and their stories. Though it may not have a large cast, Erased does manage to make great characters. Satoru Fujinuma is a man who is initially sad with his life even though he has his special power. Seeing him gradually grow into a person who loves life and is a decent human being is really good because it reflects everything that he learns during his journey. Sachiko is the cool and calm mother of Satoru who is most definitely the first character you will like because of how she is pretty much a ‘background character’ and yet has a great influence on the story. Speaking of background characters, we also have Airi who is easy going and yet serious coworker of Satoru. She is the first character to influence Satoru on his journey and pretty much moved the story forward all on her own. There are also other characters like Kayo Hinazuki the first victim of the killings, Satoru’s friend Kenya and the killer.

Erased is a story that builds up slowly. The first volume is something that might even seem boring to some people but once it gets going it gets going hard because the thrill is always on and the guessing of the ‘who did it’ will always keep you on your toes. I loved the tone of the manga, the suspense is kept alive so well and the anticipation of what will happen next is always exciting. The manga also manages to present the psychological moments of the characters extremely well. The manga in comparison to the anime really fleshes out the characters more and gives them depth as well as relevance to the story that the anime lacked which makes the character likable and not seem like they were just there. There’s also the backstory of the villain that makes the story so much more better because of the motives and the inner thoughts.

Your efforts matter no matter how small they may seem. While there are other things about the manga that I can talk about such as the very obvious, ‘fill the hole in your heart’ and the psychology of the killer, the reason I want to get into this, in particular, is that while it’s what the series is all about, it’s never once explicitly stated and while its the obvious thing it is also very subtle. Efforts not mattering is something that not only Satoru but a lot of the characters feel and that feeling is proved wrong eventually because they keep going which is basically how it is with life.

The manga has 44 chapters, 49 with the volume of extras which I do recommend reading. The anime itself has 12 episodes and is a good watch however the best way to experience Erased is and always will be the manga because of better characterization, better twists, and the overall better ending which I have to say is a beautiful ending. If you’re in the mood for some mystery then I do recommend picking up Erased and experiencing it in both forms if you can. While I rate the anime a 6/10, the points that make the manga better bring it up to a 7/10.

So that is it for this post guys hope you got some value from this.  Thank you guys for reading to the end hit me up on Instagram and Twitter with your thoughts and if you have any ideas on what I should write about. Stay safe from the COVID-19. Thank you again and I’ll see you all next week.

Wotakoi – Not a typical romance

Hey guys what is up welcome back to my blog I’m so thankful that you guys took the time out of your day to read my blog post. Hope you all are safe and healthy. I really needed something light and fun to watch and Wotakoi was a new concept that I just had to try out. Anyways, MILD SPOILERS AHEAD like always, you should know this by now.

The story is about these 4 characters navigating their day to day life while keeping up with their otaku habits and maintaining their own relationships.

The thing that I liked about this anime was that while there was little character ‘development’ because these characters are already adults and it is hard to change when you’re an adult, the characters have their own little realizations throughout the story especially, Hirotaka who gradually deals with his insecurity. There’s not much to say about the characters other than that they’re fun and interesting to watch and that my favorite is Koyanagi because of her insults.

The romance in this anime isn’t typical either because normally romances are set in high school and involve teens who are still developing since the characters in this anime are all working adults the story is different and moves differently from a normal romance. The new concept gives a lot of freedom and while it may feel unrelatable for some people, it actually is pretty fun and comedic to watch. There’s also the fact that this is an anime that gradually gets better, it doesn’t start off awesome but slowly as you get to know the characters you start having fun. There’s also the fact that it feels more like a slice of life about the characters than a romance and while I liked it, this is something that people might not like.

All romances are not the same, that is something that I learned from this anime. Even the two couples shown in the anime are all different in how they interact. One is new and moves slow and the other is all developed and moves differently. The reason I pointed this out as a take away from this is because, people usually always look at other couples (usually celeb couples) and try to mold their own relationship in that image which fails miserably most of the times because every relationship is different and unique to their own pace.

The anime has 11 episodes currently and it is a fun watch. I might just dive into the manga soon because I liked the characters. This is one of those anime that is definitely aimed at working adults so if you’re an adult you will relate to this anime a lot more than I ever can. I loves the comedy and the slice of life of this anime. With a fresh concept, more slice of life than romance and characters that are unrelatable to some people I will gives this anime a 7/10. This is a reccomendation that you will have to try out for yourself to be sure about.

So that is it for this post guys hope you got some value from this.  Thank you guys for reading to the end hit me up on Instagram and Twitter with your thoughts and if you have any ideas on what I should write about. Stay safe from the COVID-19. Thank you again and I’ll see you all next week.

MHA – Enjoyable and overhated

Hey guys what is up welcome back to my blog I’m so thankful that you guys took the time out of your day to read my blog post. Hope you all are safe and healthy. I’ll admit that it took me a long time to start this because I was biased since I’d seen people say MHA was not good but I’m glad I started it. Also, this review is kind of different since I switched from the anime to the manga at the beginning of S4. The basic format is the same but what I’m saying here talks about both the anime and the manga. So let’s get into it. MILD SPOILERS AHEAD.

In a word where people have begun to develop superpowers, otherwise known as ‘Quirks’, heroes and villains are common. Every person with a quirk dreams of becoming a hero. In such a society, Izuku Midoriya is born quirkless that is without any superpower. Having always been a fan of All Might, the no. 1 hero and the symbol of peace, Izuku still dreams of being a hero, aiming to enroll at UA High School, the school with the best hero course. One day unintentionally, Izuku is captured by a villain and All Might who happens to be on the scene defeats the villain, saving Izuku. After having a chat with All Might, Izuku comes to know of a secret that All Might hides from the entire world. Through an event that makes All Might believe in Izuku, All Might passes down his quirk to Izuku so he can enroll in the hero course in UA. Now armed with a quirk that has potential far beyond his understanding, Izuku beings a journey to become the world’s greatest hero.

There are a lot of characters in this series and I mean a lot. The fun thing is almost all of them grow through their time at UA to become better and deal with their issues. The MC, Midoriya Izuku who at first seems like a classic tale of zero to hero, grows to understand the truth behind the world of heroes that shatters his false ideals. Bakugo who is Izuku’s childhood friend and rival, is a brash and arrogant boy who suffers from an inferiority complex towards Izuku. There’s Uraraka Ochako, a cheery girl whose motivations are much different than a normal person’s motivation for becoming a hero and yet she is still pure hearted. And my favorite character, Todoroki Shoto, a boy who struggles with his own identity and his relationship with his power as well as with his family. these characters all go through their character arcs to grow and the sheer number of characters is also amazing though some are left static, we do get to see most of their ideals and values.

The anime at least up until season 3 has some really good animation and music however the anime’s pace does seem to be off in comparison to the manga. The series in general is comedic at certain times when needed and sometimes when unneeded aswell. The series is also highly emotional and will drive you to tears more than once, the intensity of each scene, the backstories, the interpersonal relationships of the characters, there’s a lot about these characters and this story that will make you cry. There’s also the intense battles and the new techniques developed in battle which shows a lot of creativity. There’s also the fact that the series manages to grasp the concept of ‘heroes in training’ extremely well. There’s just the fact that the series can be way too chaotic at times with plot points are left open for a long time with no mention of them at all, enough to make you forget them. The ending arc does tie them back together but it still can get very chaotic at times, even in the manga.

While the series manages to show a lot of things such as how certain quirks can be damaging no matter what, how there’s inequality even ina society with heroes in terms of how people are treated, there is one thing that stands out and shines to me, the one thing that made me like the series a lot, ‘Heroes can’t save everyone’. This is related to the characters at UA, being naive and believing that heroes save everyone and gradually coming to terms with the fact that they too will have some regrets. This is mainly Deku’s ideal that heroes save everyone and this same ideal combined with the reality that he has learnt sets up the ending in such a beautiful way that I can see it being good if executed well.

The anime is ongoing at 113 episodes divided over 5 seasons while the manga is in what seems to be the final stretch, at 354 chapters. The finale of the series is extremely exciting and emotional and is set up really well, it all depends on how it is executed now. With exciting fights, brutal realities and a story that only gets darker as it progresses, MHA is a slow start that burns into a great fire. I’ll give it an 8 personally.

So that is it for this post guys hope you got some value from this.  Thank you guys for reading to the end hit me up on Instagram and Twitter with your thoughts and if you have any ideas on what I should write about. Stay safe from the COVID-19. Thank you again and I’ll see you all next week.

Slam Dunk – Intense emotions and intense basketball

Hey guys what is up welcome back to my blog I’m so thankful that you guys took the time out of your day to read my blog post. Hope you all are safe and healthy. This manga I got recommended on Twitter (Where you should follow me because I post my thoughts on new chapters there all the time). I did well in picking up this manga because I like basketball and this manga was really good. Anyway, MILD SPOILERS AHEAD.

The story begins with Sakuragi Hanamichi being rejected by another girl in middle school bringing his record of being rejected up to 50 times. Now in highschool and hating basketball because the girl he liked, liked a basketball player, delinquent Hanamichi is approached by a girl, Akagi Haruko who seeing his strong build and height asks him if he is interested in basketball. Desperate to impress Haruko, Hanamichi decides that he too wants to join the basketball team. However, his road is not at all easy but Hanamichi perseveres and his growth from a petty delinquent to a proper player who loves basketball is the tough journey we will witness.

The main focus of the story, Hanamichi is developed quite a lot throughout the story which is good considering that he is the MC. He grows from an arrogant delinquent who knows nothing about basketball to a proper player and along the way he learns a lot. next is the ace of the Shohoku High basketball team, Rukawa, a star player who is a contrast to Hanamichi in skill and the direct opposite of him. We have the center of the team, Akagi Takenori who is the captain of the team and primarily the one who teaches Sakuragi. There’s also Miyagi Ryota and Mitsui, both problem children like Sakuragi. Then we have the supporter and Hanamichi’s crush, Haruko. The manager Ayako and last but certainly not the least, the amazing coach, Anzai. These characters all form the Shohoku High basketball team and all are well-written characters however this is more of the story of Hanamichi than the story of the basketball club.

This manga is extremely funny and the humor is played in really well with the intense basketball making sure that the pacing is kept fine and we get to experience all the highs of the plays in the game as well as get to replace in between those plays with a few antics especially the interactions between Hanamichi and Rukawa. The manga also has some really good basketball which I honestly did not expect. The plays seem real and the intensity of each and every game can be felt by the reader. The manga also gets into the inner conflicts within a team and that shows us a lot. The manga doesn’t fail to make you experience some real emotions and I guarantee that you will at least feel something by the end of it. There’s the art of the manga which is not the prettiest earlier on but that too improves over time.

Love for basketball is something that shouldn’t be forgotten. That is something that I saw even in Kurko’s Basketball but in Slam Dunk too, it is the love for the game that ultimately motivates the players of the teams and makes for a great story and the ending panel too reaffirms that in the end, it’s not winning or losing that matters, it was always just loving basketball.

The manga is finished at 276 chapters and while some may call the finale rushed I believe that it was not rushed and rather was an ending that gave us the most realistic outcome without ruining the true message of the manga which was the love for basketball. While the focus may be the entire team, in the end, this was the story of Sakuragi Hanamichi and that is what we get. For some intense basketball and some really deeply emotional moments do read Slam Dunk which I guarantee is at least a 7 out of ten.

The File of Young Kindaichi Returns – Entertaining detective work

Hey guys what is up welcome back to my blog I’m so thankful that you guys took the time out of your day to read my blog post. Hope you all are safe and healthy. This anime is close to my heart and I am biased toward it. The reason? Years ago when I was just a kid I switched to the ‘Animax’ channel (if I remember correctly) on my TV and there I watched one episode of this show, since then I always tried to watch this show but the episodes were broadcasted in a random order so I couldn’t make much sense of it. However, it stuck with me and years later I remembered the name ‘Kindaichi’ and searched for it. I found the original but bad subs, low quality and no availability of episodes made me turn to this new anime which is kind of a continuation. MILD SPOILERS AHEAD. Very mild like only character name and some outlines of cases.

The fun thing about this anime is that it doesn’t follow a typical story. I’ll get to explaining that in a bit. Kindaichi Hajme is the grandson of a famous detective, a slakcer in school, his trued abilities show when he works on murder cases that he gets sucked into. He usually works with childhood friend and kind of love interest Miyuki Nanase. the old detective in the police force Kenmochi takes help from Kindaichi from cases and is his go to for police support during cases. Then there’s the police superintendent Akechi, a brilliant and handsome man who offers support to Kindaichi and competes with him. The story follows Kindaichi on different cases, the only constant characters are the four mentioned above and sometimes 2 of Kindaichi’s rivals make an appearance but it never goes anywhere. The thing is that you can basically jump into any arc of your choosing and completely understand the story. The arcs being anywhere from 1 to 5 episodes long. Hence a story summary is pretty much not possible here.

Character development is nonexistent in this anime and you will see that because from the start we see Kindaichi as a static character. He’s smart, goofy, and sometimes a pervert but when solving cases he is the most serious person ever. He doesn’t change throughout the show, not even once, not even when you expect that some change would come in him. The characters are interesting but do not develop. The conversations between characters can be interesting, especially in one particular case where Kindaichi has a conversation with the Puppeter from Hell, a rival but apart from that do not expect any character development because the characters keep changing for each case.

The anime does detective work extremely well. Setting up the case, giving us the clues and doing the ultimate reveal of the culprit, the anime does it all beautifully and each case will keep you engrossed because you can figure out some of the tricks but you will almost never be able to guess the true culprit until Kindaichi reveals him. The animation is good, nothing to write home about. The music too is good and set well according to the scenes. The bad thing about this anime is how there’s no consistent plot even with Kindaichi having 2 really good rivals setup for him.

No matter the reason for the crime, crime is always wrong. That is something that anime can show really well. Often times when the motive of the killer is revealed you would sympathize with the killer and maybe even think that Kindaichi will forgive the killer but no, Kindaichi stays true to his ideal of justice and never once does he forgive a criminal for their crimes. He stays a compassionate human to even the culprits but makes sure they pay for their crimes.

The anime has 47 episodes with 1 TV special. The only strong point of this anime is the detective work that it shows, the fell of the mystery is really well done and is quite entertaining. This is another one of the anime can be a hit or miss with people and completely differs from person to person. The anime can be rated at a 6 at most but I personally give it a 7 because of the hit of nostalgia it gave him. I won’t tell you all to immediately check it out but if you find the time do watch one case and see if you like it.
