Instagram recommendations are usually not up topto the mark or are series that I have already read. This time however things were different since a random reel popping onto my account led to me starting this manga. MILD SPOILERS AHEAD.

An 18 year-old amnesiac woman wakes up to a dystopian world that is overrun by monsters. It is the year 2050 and a scientist who once released these monsters on earth now claims to want to save humanity through his Cortex corporation and his creation, the Angel Wings, soldiers who fight against the monsters with our main character being one of them and so much more than she remembers.
Valerie, that’s the name of our 18 year old amnesiac and her character has been amazing. From the start we feel as if she’s a survivor through sheer luck but slowly the mystery surrounding her reveals that she is the very heart of humanity’s survival. Her suppression of the monster inside, dealing with her past self, a person she doesn’t recognize. The inner monologues that she has are the absolute best and complimented by the art style. While Valerie remains the main focus of the series with the other characters building around her, they all are also interesting characters like Koshiro and his brother Hiroki and the main antagonist like mad scientist Dr. Utah who seems to have a God complex and is shrouded in mystery.
The manga has unique art since it is more of a comic than an actual manga but I call it a manga because the author calls it that. The colour is all in the background and not in the characters however the background does well to show the emotions of the characters and some of the environments are also beautiful to just look at. On that note the potential of the world building is good enough even in a dystopian world with all the mystery that is yet to be solved. The series has good action and it is bloody, the fight scenes are hype and truly a delight. There’s also the humor and romance which serves to compliment the story and doesn’t disrupt the flow. There’s the mystery aspect and the best being the psychological aspects of the story which are seen in Valerie and her internal monologues. The series also shines in showing from different viewpoints the cruel dystopian world. The series will give you AOT vibes and that is because the author accepts the inspiration from AOT however it manages to make itself unique in quite a lot of different ways.
The series touches upon how even before the monsters showed up, the world was destroyed by global warming which was caused by humans. The series always manages to hit the mark when painting the picture of humans being the bigger monsters as compared to the monsters in the world.
With 79 chapters, Tomahawk Angel is getting good with all the twists and revelations about the world coming about. The story is at a critical point currently and it’s a good time to catch up currently. I am giving Tomahawk Angel a solid 9/10.
