Shikimori’s not just a cutie – Not a masterpiece but overhated

Hey guys what is up welcome back to my blog I’m so thankful that you guys took the time out of your day to read my blog post. Hope you all are safe and healthy. This is one of the underrated anime in my opinion. The hate on this was crazy and I decided to watch it anyway simply to check out if the hate was accurate or not and we know that anime community hate rarely is genuine and in this case it wasn’t genuine at all. MINOR SPOILERS AHEAD.

The story is about Izumi Yuu, a high schooler who is extremely unlucky and always falls into trouble. However he has his cute girlfriend Shikimori to help him out who always protects him and looks cool doing it. This story follows their relationship as we watch them have their cute interactions.

The cast is pretty small in this one and it’s better this way because Izumi and Shikimori as the stars of the show and they shine well enough to make it seem that other characters aren’t needed at all. I personally love Izumi’s character a lot because even though he’s unlucky he’s also considerate and caring all the time while at the same time he is always active in his relationship with Shikimori in trying to make her happy. Shikimori on the other hand though initially simply seemed cute and cool to me, is shown to be a great character. Her backstory is better than even Izumi’s and you’ll definitely like it if you have patience. There’s other characters like the best friend type, Inuzuka. The athletic and over excited Nekozaki and the slow, lethargic, Hachimitsu. These characters play a significant role and are able to carry scenes without Izumi and Shikimori being there. They aren’t very deep but they are good.

The beautiful animation is the first thing that will catch your eye and let me tell you it is absolutely amazing throughout the show. It isn’t JJK but it’s still very pretty to look at. The comedy is also spot on with this series because every joke hits and the gags are never overused. The supporting cast is lovely and the anime though seemingly being a generic high school love story is very different because it shows us an already established relationship. The relationship though established isn’t exactly mature, Izumi and Shikimori get nervous around each other sometimes and yet they are also comfortable. This anime is definitely not for those who are impatient, we mostly see cute interactions between Izumi and Shikimori and between the rest of the group before we actually get to see how they came together and how they have grown. Since this is done differently, for someone like me who loves seeing character growth it was a surprise that we got a flashback so late in the show however the growth is still done really well.

The one important thing I learnt from watching this anime is that I should never trust the reviews. The horrible reviews of this anime are mostly people who are jealous of the healthy relationship shown in the anime and others aren’t interested in romance anime much most likely. The hate on the anime was insane but trying it out for myself I understood how misleading the majority can be at times. Izumi’s nature is also something I loved in the anime. Despite being an unlucky guy he never wallows in self pity rather he is also actively working to counteract whatever bad things his luck could cause and is constantly kind to people around him because he knows pain himself. There’s another theme that the anime explores with two characters which is sitting around and waiting versus actively doing your best and I liked that as well.

12 episodes short, Shikimori’s not just a cutie is a mix of comedy, loads of cuteness and some good themes. The finale is done well and I loved every part of this anime that is despite the hate it got and despite knowing that I’ll probably have people questioning this, but I rate anime objectively, based on how they deliver on what they promise hence I rate this anime 8/10 and a must watch for people who love romance.

So that is it for this post guys hope you got some value from this.  Thank you guys for reading to the end hit me up on Instagram and Twitter with your thoughts and if you have any ideas on what I should write about. Stay safe. Thank you again and I’ll see you all next week.
