Jujutsu Kaisen – Stunning animation on an average story

Hey guys what is up welcome back to my blog I’m so thankful that you guys took the time out of your day to read my blog post. Hope you all are safe and healthy. The only reason I started this was because of the hype and well let’s just say that it didn’t satisfy my expectations at all. MILD SPOILERS like always.

Yuji Itadori is a high school student who is in amazing shape and is near superhuman. He has no interest in sports because he visits his grandfather who is dying. His dying grandfather tells Itadori to always help others so that he can die surrounded by people. Soon after the death, Itadori is contacted by a student from Jujutsu Tech who wants to know about the “cursed object” the finger of Sukuna who is the King of Curses. Itadori reveals that his friends have the finger and the student from Jujutsu Tech, Fushigoro Megumi goes to save them. Locked in a fierce battle where the Fushiguro is losing, Itadori eats the finger of Sukuna to gain the power of the King of Curses and begins a journey into the world of jujutsu where he will learn to control ‘cursed energy’ to fight curses, being born from the negative emotions of humans all to take the advice his grandfather gave him to his heart.

I didn’t really like all the characters in this anime but I suppose that that is because the anime was more focused on fights. The characters and the story overall take heavy inspiration from Naruto. There’s the teacher Gojo Satoru who is a cool, arrogant, and powerful sorcerer like Kakashi, Itadori Yuuji the MC is a caring person who is very kind and will jump into danger without any care about the consequences like Naruto. His desire to give people a proper death if they die was a good aspect of his. There’s Megumi Fushiguro, a serious guy who has a past connected to jujutsu and I can’t say he shares many resemblances to Sasuke but he is the aloof best friend guy but has a lot more diversity than Sasuke. Then there’s Kugisaki Nobara, a rude and narcissistic girl who has her own reasons to be a jujutsu sorcerer. She’s not much like Sakura but the author has to make something different. These characters all have their own different developments from the same missions that they go on which is one of the good things about them because even when I didn’t connect as well the growth was obvious.

Jujutsu Kaisen excels at animation, music, and fighting and works to combine the three to give fight sequences that are a delight to watch and somewhat make up for the average story. The anime also shows gore and dare I say it, even the animation on that is good, however, you may need to close your eyes at times if you’re too sensitive. I personally loved when we saw the politics in the world of jujutsu with what Gojo says as well as the 3 major clans because that is some dark stuff that I like. There are a few plot armor moments and some attempts at comedy that failed to make me laugh but the comedy may be able to make others laugh.

The human mind births disgusting things. That is what I pulled from this anime and I have a very good reason for that which is that the ‘curses’ in the show are shown to be birthed from the negative emotions of humans and the whole concept is really good. That is because we as a society never see what our negative emotions are doing but the constant negative emotions birth curses that can hurt humans in the show and while we may not have curses in the real world I sure do know that negative emotions cause harm.

The anime has 24 episodes and a movie that works as a prequel. Personally, I feel that this was just a prologue of sorts and a setup for what is to come. I might jump in the manga or just wait for season 2 whichever I feel like but I do feel that despite the amazing animation and music, jujutsu Kaisen has a mediocre story at least in the anime. For the animation and music and the character growth as well as the themes I will give Jujutsu Kaisen a 6/10 on the anime something that I hope the manga or season 2 changes because this is not a good score for something that was so hyped, it feels like the animation, music and pretty boys were all that people saw and never mentioned the lacking story.

So that is it for this post guys hope you got some value from this.  Thank you guys for reading to the end hit me up on Instagram and Twitter with your thoughts and if you have any ideas on what I should write about. Stay safe from the COVID-19. Thank you again and I’ll see you all next week.
