I was very close to dropping this anime but it managed to prove itself and differ itself from the generic Isekai anime that we’ve been seeing. This one takes a lot of patience and you need to be forgiving for it to get good.

Sir Shagrua Edith Lugrid, a legendary hero is about to finish off a powerful necromancer known as the Corpse God. In an epic clash of spells a reincarnation occurs, in the body of Shinoyama Polka in modern day Shinjuku. Desiring a peaceful life, the quest to take care of the problems of Shinoyama Polka begins but the real Shinoyama Polka wasn’t all that simple or insignificant either.
Shinoyama Polka is an interesting character both reincarnated and in the past life, the quest for peace but being destined for war in a violent world and getting caught up in this world that is violent as well and has it’s own problems and still trying to survive is great. Other characters of DMDP are also good however only a few are great and really shine through, characters like Misaki while earlier interesting is later turned into an airhead and comedic character. The others however really really shine through.
Dead Mount Death Play has decent and clean animation, you won’t have a complaint but you also won’t be blown away by how great the animation is. The series can be comedic however in the earlier episodes it struggles to find its identity while juggling seriousness and comedy. Unnecessary ecchi scenes are also a very annoying thing in the anime. However in the latter half, the series picks up the pace and focuses fully on the story, finding the balance between a good story and ecchi. SPOILERS IN THE NEXT PARAGRAPH.
Dead Mount Death Play really knows how to make us sympathize with even a necromancer by making us see his perspective and his thoughts when he uses his magic. His conversations about his ideology were a delight to hear at times especially since they were hardly ever one dimensional.
12 episodes for Dead Mount Death Play and a 2nd season coming in October. The finale isn’t all that very fantastic as a finale should be but it raised a lot of mysteries and if they can execute on it properly in season 2 then it can be a good anime. I rate it a 7/10.
