We’ll be changing up the format a little from now on, just know I still wish everyone well. Anyway, I’m a sucker for murder mysteries but what if we follow the killer ? And the killer is none other than a simple office working dad ? His reasons, his actions, his guilt, oh there’s a lot in this anime besides just thrilling cat and mouse chases.

The story begins with failed mystery novel writer Tosu Tetsuo visiting his daughter Reika who lives alone to see that she’s been abused, suspecting it to be her boyfriend Tetsuo launches an investigation into the matter that leads to a murder, a murder of a man from a very powerful organisation, an organisation that is connected to Tetsuo in more ways than one. Will his mystery novel experience combined with his wits let him survive? Or will Tosu Tetsuo die trying to save his family?
The characters are very strong in this anime, there’s quite a decent amount of them and they are all quite well written with plenty of mystery around them. Our main character Tosu Tetsuo’s desperation as a father is contrasted and complimented by the desperation of a Yakuza member Kyoichi trying to move up in the world for personal reasons. Wife and helper Kasen adds quite a lot to the story in more ways than one. Other organization members and the “main villain” are also well written characters especially with the villain also being a father who loves his family contrasting Tetsuo’s life while also being very similar. Two threads of the same rope.
Let’s get it out of the way, the animation is bad like not unwatchable but bad enough that it’s noticeable and makes the experience less exciting. The rest of the show is as exciting as it can get, each episode brings new twists and challenges for Tetsuo while also not being repetitive but leaving minor details in the story that culminate later on showing how well crafted of a story it really is. It’s a murder mystery from the perspective of a killer, we see guilt and shame but we also see helplessness and desperation, at some moments truly questioning if the acts considered evil as a whole by society can be considered as other than due to the victim and circumstances of the perpetrator.
My Home Hero is great at drawing similarities and contrast between ideologies of characters, wanting to move up in the world with loyalty in a world where loyalty doesn’t mean anything. 2 men loving their families, clashing because of the hurt caused by their children, longing for justice, longing for peace while locked in conflict due to their own actions. Personally I feel like it’s a nice touch to the already juicy mystery and suspense of the show.
My Home Hero has 12 episodes and the finale is intense and it cleans up the arc nicely if you’re like me however who noticed that there are a lot of things left unanswered then you’ll be into the manga too. It’s a good watch for mystery lovers like myself. The final rating considering the story and bad animation is 8/10.
So that is it for this post guys hope you got some value from this. Thank you guys for reading to the end hit me up on Instagram and Twitter with your thoughts and if you have any ideas on what I should write about. Stay safe. Thank you again and I’ll see you all next week.
