Wotakoi – Not a typical romance

Hey guys what is up welcome back to my blog I’m so thankful that you guys took the time out of your day to read my blog post. Hope you all are safe and healthy. I really needed something light and fun to watch and Wotakoi was a new concept that I just had to try out. Anyways, MILD SPOILERS AHEAD like always, you should know this by now.

Narumi Momose who has just joined a new workplace is an otaku who likes to keep her habits secret from other people due to fear of being ridiculed. She runs into a childhood friend Hirotaka Nifuji at her new workplace. Hirotaka is a gamer who is open about his habits unlike, Narumi. Narumi is also friends with cosplayer Hanako Koyanagi who goes to the same office and Taro Kabakura who she is dating. The story is about these 4 characters navigating their day to day life while keeping up with their otaku habits and maintaining their own relationships.

The thing that I liked about this anime was that while there was little character ‘development’ because these characters are already adults and it is hard to change when you’re an adult, the characters have their own little realizations throughout the story especially, Hirotaka who gradually deals with his insecurity. There’s not much to say about the characters other than that they’re fun and interesting to watch and that my favorite is Koyanagi because of her insults.

The romance in this anime isn’t typical either because normally romances are set in high school and involve teens who are still developing since the characters in this anime are all working adults the story is different and moves differently from a normal romance. The new concept gives a lot of freedom and while it may feel unrelatable for some people, it actually is pretty fun and comedic to watch. There’s also the fact that this is an anime that gradually gets better, it doesn’t start off awesome but slowly as you get to know the characters you start having fun. There’s also the fact that it feels more like a slice of life about the characters than a romance and while I liked it, this is something that people might not like.

All romances are not the same, that is something that I learned from this anime. Even the two couples shown in the anime are all different in how they interact. One is new and moves slow and the other is all developed and moves differently. The reason I pointed this out as a take away from this is because, people usually always look at other couples (usually celeb couples) and try to mold their own relationship in that image which fails miserably most of the times because every relationship is different and unique to their own pace.

The anime has 11 episodes currently and it is a fun watch. I might just dive into the manga soon because I liked the characters. This is one of those anime that is definitely aimed at working adults so if you’re an adult you will relate to this anime a lot more than I ever can. I loves the comedy and the slice of life of this anime. With a fresh concept, more slice of life than romance and characters that are unrelatable to some people I will gives this anime a 7/10. This is a reccomendation that you will have to try out for yourself to be sure about.

So that is it for this post guys hope you got some value from this.  Thank you guys for reading to the end hit me up on Instagram and Twitter with your thoughts and if you have any ideas on what I should write about. Stay safe from the COVID-19. Thank you again and I’ll see you all next week.
