Blue Lock – Battle Shonen Football with lots of emotion.

Hey guys what is up welcome back to my blog I’m so thankful that you guys took the time out of your day to read my blog post. Hope you all are safe and healthy. I know that most of you that are active in the anime twitter community or anitwt already have opinions on this anime, either you think it’s good or you think it’s the worst thing every made, well I think I’ll be showing why a battle Shonenesque, hyped, filled with emotions anime can be good. MILD SPOILERS AHEAD.’. MILD SPOILERS AHEAD.

Isagi Yoichi passes at a critical moment in a tournament causing his team to not score and his high school team gets disqualified leaving him frustrated. Meanwhile, The Japan Football Association hires Ego Jinpachi to make the Japanese nation team win the World Cup. Ego reveals his plan to be the creating of a facility known as Blue Lock, a training ground to train the ultimate egoist, a striker who will never pass and score 100% of the time. Blue Lock sends out invitations to 300 players with Isagi being one of them. Isagi accepts the offer however the training method of Blue Lock is not what one would expect, striving to be the best in the highly competitive environment of Blue Lock, Isagi and 299 other strikers play to become the world’s greatest strikers with failure meaning they can never represent Japan ever again in soccer, effectively destroying their football careers.

Blue Lock shines with its characters, giving each of them their own motivations and goals for joining Blue Lock as well as their their very own unique ‘egos’ which is a key part of Blue Lock. We have the main character Isagi Yoichi who is eager to be the best but realizes his level pretty soon in Blue Lock, however he strives on with the dream to be the greatest striker in the world. We have Kira Ryosuke, a player who is eliminated early showing what kind of players Blue Lock needs, completely selfish egoists. The incharge of Blue Lock Ego Jinpachi despite not looking like much knows exactly how to make the players under him stronger. Bachira Meguru, the crazy dribbler with a really sad backstory is one of my favourite characters. We have the Ichigo looking guy, Kunigami Kiniku with the dream of being a soccer superhero. These characters all have amazing depth but any deeper analysis on them makes the ‘mild spoilers’ thing change to ‘major spoilers’ and I don’t want that.

The nice visuals are the first thing you notice about Blue Lock even though at some very specific places we can nitpick, the majority of the episodes look good. The egoist type of play shown in Blue Lock can seem like it really doesn’t make any sense in the real world but the anime does know how to utilize it fully and how to not contradict itself when playing soccer in teams. The plot is also constantly moving, every match making sure that things stay interesting. The soccer of Blue Lock actually makes some amount of sense believe it or not but then again I am also not a major soccer fan so I may be wrong. The intensity of a battle shonen, often described as childish in anitwt is the best part of the anime since you’ll get connected to the characters, you get sad when they lose and hyped when they win, this connect to the characters is what makes the intensity and emotional moments perfect for Blue Lock.

Changing ideals to become better. The anime while talking about this point doesn’t mean to tell a person to completely lose themselves but shows that only through constant evolution a person can survive in Blue Lock and I believe that that is also the case in real life since without growth there is only stagnation and stagnation is not good at all.

24 episodes in total, a second season and movie already announced and a finale that makes me want to dive into the manga as soon as I can, the intensity of Blue Lock that some way consider its weakness are its biggest strength and I would definitely give this anime a solid 8/10.

So that is it for this post guys hope you got some value from this.  Thank you guys for reading to the end hit me up on Instagram and Twitter with your thoughts and if you have any ideas on what I should write about. Stay safe. Thank you again and I’ll see you all next week.
