Hey guys what is up welcome back to my blog I’m so thankful that you guys took the time out of your day to read my blog post. Hope you all are safe from the COVID-19. I have been watching a lot of shows in quarantine but the one that has really caught my eye is Elite. A teen drama with a murder mystery why not I thought. It was really let’s say enlightening.
The first couple episodes are spent introducing different characters and the setting is made clear Las Encinas, the most exclusive private school in Spain has 3 new students who are there on a scholarship. The immediate result of these 3 working class students studying with the richest and most privileged students in Spain is a clash. Tensions are developed in the class with some of the rich students accepting the new ones while some form serious rivalries. So far this was like any other teen drama set in a school. Rivals, sex, relationships then the bomb called Episode 3 hit and I was blown away. This was no longer any regular teen drama this got mental health involved and the series got bold. Addressing issues like kids dealing drugs, taking drugs, dealing with parents, keeping secrets. There is a lot going on and you need to keep up.

The best thing that this show does is that no one remains a hero or villain for long and at the end of the day no one is innocent and everyone has something wrong that they have done and the paybacks, resentment and old debts all add up to the murder. Everyone has a motive to murder the victim and everyone is involved in a way but the murder itself is committed by only one person. The point where Elite really shines is showing that though from 2 completely different worlds the students face so similar problems. One side has nothing and wants something while the other side due to having everything wants something different or as in the words of the character Polo “add a little spice to their life”. Each of the 3 poor kids get involved with the rich kids and chaos ensures. There are breakups, hook-ups, retaliations, disrespect all the things you would have wanted and more.
The fights as you would call in this series are more emotional and psychological consisting of trickery and deceit rather than good old fashioned brawling. Each character goes through a different stress and fight of their own whether it be the faults of the past or the jealously of the present. Now for someone else the most important thing about the series maybe the murder mystery and whether or not justice is served in the end. I like to go deeper into everything and while watching Elite I figured out one thing that students need to be given more facilities for mental health care. Each character wouldn’t have done what they had if they had just been given some attention or some care.
This hit me hard like the school cares for its reputation not tolerating drugs but they never stopped to ask why were the drugs being taken, the parents could care less as some are involved in drugs themselves but the point to take here is that we never get to the root of the problem. If only someone had asked why the drugs were being taken instead of just putting charges on the dealer things would change. I’m trying to keep this spoiler free as I just want to talk about the basic concept of teenage mental health issues. Elite is not just any teenage show it actually shows how without any guidance the kids do what they feel right and end up in situations that well if you watch the show you’ll know. Murder and addiction are not how we want the students who according to the world are supposed to be “The leaders of the new world” to end up instead we want them to develop themselves and hone their skills so they can achieve greatness on the flip side there are kids who have greatness thrust upon them and they just don’t want it and the answer to cope with that stress you guessed it DRUGS. The problems faced by teens in general these days are not anything major at the beginning but due to not talking to people and not getting proper care and attention.
The thing that you can learn from Elite is how not to end up in your teens. One of the characters very stupidly said “We are 16. We have our entire lives to find ourselves again if we lose ourselves”. Now I have nothing against exploration in fact I think life is all about self-exploration but drinking and doing drugs is not I repeat NOT self-exploration and I desperately tell you Lost things are not found that’s because they are lost . If you need money please figure out some other way and don’t deal drugs. If you’re stressing go to therapy. The end verdict is that Elite really shows how much pain and pressure a teen can go through. So if you are a student or any teen just please talk to someone about your problems we need to stop texting and start talking if you need help please seek help it won’t drop out of the sky for you. If you are a parent or any adult talk to teens around you or anyone who you think may be going through something. We need to start trying to know people and stop dropping the masks we’re wearing.
So that is it for this post guys hope you got some value from this. Thank you guys for reading to the end hit me up on Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn with your thoughts and if you have any ideas which I should write about. Stay safe from the COVID-19.
