Review of The Oath of the Vayuputras

Hey guys what is up welcome back to my blog I’m so thankful that you guys took the time out of your day to read my blog post. The Oath of The Vayuputras is the third and last book in the Shiva trilogy and this one goes all out giving twists that even the most perceptive of us would not imagine. SPOILER WARNING: THIS BOOK CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR ALL 3 BOOKS.

The Battle lines are drawn, the alliances are made and the betrayals are done now all that remains is the war. This is the best short description that I can give of the book. It is truly epic Amish surpassed all expectations with this one making this book the longest and the best in the whole series. *ENDING SPOILER FOR BOOK 2* Shiva learns that the secret of the Nagas is not anything but a person one whom Shiva dearly loved as a brother and one whom he had thought dead. I will try to write without revealing his name because it makes it more interesting. Shiva learns how the deformed Nagas are born. Later it is revealed that the disease in the land of Branga, the Nagas are connected and are caused by the Greatest Evil one that has been lying under their noses in Meluha all this time.

Some in Shiva’s entrouge face conflicted loyalties whether to fight for their living God or for their country Meluha. Amish talks about Dharma in this book and being accurate showing that he does his research. The philosophical themes discussed provide a great relief from the usual strategy and fighting. We finally get to know how a Neelkanth is created and what the role of the Vayuputras is. Bhrigu on the other hand refuses to believe that Shiva is the Neelkanth as he was not created by the Vayuputras. Through flashbacks we see Shiva’s uncle giving him medicine thus, choosing him to be the Neelkanth and showing that he was a Vayuputra. We also see the event that has scarred Shiva’s mind and how that was what led to him being chosen by his uncle. Shiva is later shown to come to terms with the event and be at peace knowing that it was a part of the puzzle that led to him becoming the Neelkanth. We see the Naga’s joining forces with Shiva showing that some of them too believe in the Neelkanth.

Shiva finally meets the fabled leader of the Vasudevs and gains knowledge from them. I have said this first and I say it again Amish describes places masterfully and the way he described all these places were the best. The army and the weapons used by them is simply magnificent. The characters while some Suryavanshis are debating as to which side they are on. The Chandravanshis see this is an opportunity to put down the Suryavanshis but Shiva is firm on the fact that if he puts a ban on the greatest evil none will use it once again showing that he is fit to be the Mahadev and is unbiased. They journey to Meluha and attach a port city where Shiva’s tactic that defeated the Chandravanshi army is used against him. Shiva decimates his opponents showing that he is a genius strategist and can break his own moves if played against him. Events occur forcing Shiva to leave to visit the Vayuputras and once again Amish does not fail to suprise us and we learn the reason the Vayuputras exist and how a Neelkanth is chosen. The war at Meluha is at a stalemate.

During the events that occur leading up to the battle of Meluha we see Kartik my personal favourite character turn into the fabled god of war. We see how the determination of a child helps him mature before his age and we see the horror of war. Kartik also plays a rather important role in helping fulfil his father’s purpose. It then that we see that every word said in Amish’s book is to the point and not just said to be changed later. Every word is followed to the letter.

Daksha grows desperate forcing his commanders to use torture and break the principles of Lord Ram. A truce is called and a peace conference held. Sati takes control in Shiva’s absence and we see the great loyalty of Nandi as it was in the legend and we see the genius mind, respect and most importantly bravery in Sati. This specific chapter won my heart you guys will know why when you read it. Here Sati is shown a true follower of Lord Ram and a fierce kashtria.

We also see another side to Emperor Daksha by the end of the story one which makes us feel pity showing that he was not the evil man but just a man trying to prove himself and stand up to the expectations of others and choosing affirmation over happiness. He is the perfect model of what a man should not be. There is a great philosophy explained with the use of a Banyan tree one which I loved. All this time the Vasudevs are shown to be the wise ones but the best philosophy is from a destroyed man facing death.

Bhrigu though shown as the ultimate foe of Shiva makes the right choice in the end and we learn that all he wanted to do was protect his people and save them from a fraudulent Neelkanth. The power from the Greatest good that has turned into the Greatest Evil corrupted him and he was not ready to part with it but he is shown the light by Shiva the Mahadev.

Overall it is the best book in the series it moves fast and sometimes I would just take a moment to contemplate what happened. Amish’s descriptions helped me play the book out like a movie in front of me. It is a must read and a story that once begun will have you satisfied at each step. It is really a great piece of fiction backed up by facts. I recommend it to all the readers out there.

So that is it for this post guys hope you got some value from this. Thank you guys for reading to the end hit me up on Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn with your thoughts and if you have any ideas which I should write about. Thank you again and I’ll see you all next week.

I would like to end by honoring Shiva the Mahadev, the greatest Vaishnava by just chanting his mantra one which his followers use to show their respect, devotion and most of all power. You will understand it’s meaning if you read the book or just google it or from the religious scriptures. I request you all to chant it with me in your minds out loud and feel the power.

                                          HAR HAR MAHADEV

And how can I forget the Supreme lord who’s devotee Shiva is for no prayer is complete without his name :
